My blues composition marks the end of my first year of BLIM consolidation and the close of 2025.
I’m curious to see what life will bring in 2026.
It took me about a month to go from sketching the ideas in Guitar Pro to playing the piece up to tempo. In the process, it became a solid consolidation of many ideas and licks I’ve picked up over the past months.
I’m proud the composition fits well over the backing track, with the rhythm cues, chord changes, and turnaround lining up nicely.
Funnily enough, I even borrowed a few lick ideas from the Bluesy Jingle Bells arrangement that I learned for Christmas. It is quite funny and a good reminder that everything is connected. And once you understand the concepts, you can apply them in different contexts.
100 % agree on this. Did you build the backing track yourself, too?
All in all, it shows how much you have learned in BLIM and the consolidation time afterwards. It was a sweet arrangement. Technical, it’s way beyond my capabilities in playing, so just take my admiration.
Well done, definitely got a good bluesy vibe and it’s nice to hear some clean playing! I also think I got a bit of a jazzy vibe mixed in, perhaps it’s just me but……
Keep at it, blues is and always has been my favourite thing, explore the facets of it there’s a lifetime of learning to be had!
Paul, Lisa, Boris, Adrian & Darrel : Thank you so much for listening and for cheering me up. It’s very very nice of you all.
I used a backing track from youtube, but eventually it’s something I’d like to make too for fun. Though, I don’t know yet how to use the drum softwares. @domi7 is great at creating backing track, I’ll eventually have to ask for his advice.
Oh, what a nice thing to end your guitar year with!
Showing what is possible with dedicated work.
I think you did great with your composition and you’re animating me to do something like this one day too.
But I’ll have to study and practice quite a bit before!
Concerning the backing tracks, if anyone needs help with that, just open a thread or send a DM, it’s not hard to do - at least a basic one - if you have a DAW and a drum software.
Nice work there Mathieu.
Very well put together, and I can hear the BLIM influences coming through in various melodic ways.
Onward and upward for a Bluesy 2026!
Sounding reallg good, Mathieu. A very well composed piece demonstrating how far you have come since BLIM day 1. It’s been good seeing you take what you have learned in BLIM and beyond and creating your own arrangements. A strong end of the year performance. Look forward to seeing your progress in 2026.
