Hello JG friends,

It’s been a while since I’ve had something to share. I’m going to update my LL with more info, but in the meantime I have a new song!

When I write, songs tend to come to me in pieces. It might start with a lyric or a particular riff and then develop from there. As a result, I end up with a lot of songs “in the works” that hang out for a while until they are ready for me to complete them. It was nice recently when I kind of had a burst of inspiration and was able to get this one from inspo only to an actual recorded version :laughing:

Sorry, no video for this one yet :laughing: This song will most likely go to DyeV, so I’ll probably wait on a video if my band mates will be adding to it. Then maybe we can all do a video for it.

In the meantime, please enjoy the audio only version! All guitar parts were done by me and Dan did the drums per usual. It’s not flawless, but I’m happy with it so far. Full lyrics below.

That was great. I really enjoyed it. I know this is a guitar forum, and the guitar is great, but the singing is really excellent (lyrics and voice).

Superb! Grabbed me from the very first chord. Has a very driven, ‘live’ feel about it: some mad cross of U2 and Jack White; tremendously rocky. Loved it!

Thank you so much! I was very happy with how the vocals came out too. I don’t know why, but I was kind of nervous to post the song. Probably because it’s been a while since I’ve gotten a full recording done. I’m so glad you enjoyed it!

Yea, the tone reminds me of Jack White (who is one of my favourite living guitarists).

May I ask what you used to get that sound?

A killer solo would be a great fit in this song. Just an idea.

Why was I expecting something acoustic! That slapped me :slight_smile:

Like the guitar sound - really on the edge. Love a fuzz that’s really cooking!

But it’s overpowering the drums a bit.

Vocal sound is really cool and well placed!

Missing a bass… is there one and just not loud enough?

That second guitar is cool, but the frequencies are fighting against the main guitar.

If you know EQ - pick a band and cut it freom the main guitar and boost it in the chorus guitar so they both have their own ‘space’.

I dig the track - but a stronger mix would help it really punch! You got a great feel for arranging the structure as well - the elongated bit at like 4 minutes is very clever!

I loved it. Totally concrete blond style. The tone, and riff and I always love me some fuzz, yeah that totally kicks butt.

I think you could even make it slap harder if right at that 2:39-2:40 mark and the other spot at the 4:00 mark you had a little pause and then it would sound super cool to jack the those drums low ends up for a moment when you do that slight pause. Sort of early QOTSA or Dave Grohl style. I think that would really set it up for you vocal line and that hook guitar part. Speaking of the hook, I love the hook riff in your song, super rad sounding it’s one of those can can totally get stuck in your head in a good way. Its a total head banger. I would full on rock to that regardless of changes or not.

You are killing it as always.

Yeah my first thought as well!

Great vocal and lyrics. Radiates confidence! Great riffing and the extra guitar part is a splendid decoration. Can’t really judge the mix on a phone.

I used a Fender Hammertone fuzz pedal plus some delay from my amp. I’m not normally a huge fan of using delay, but it worked for me here. I also have a Boss EQ pedal that I’m pretty sure I added in as well. I have changed the settings since I recorded the song, so I’m not 100% positive what I did with it :laughing: I really need to get in the habit of keeping track of what I used! When I write, I spend some time playing around with the sound until I find something I like that fits the song.

I agree! I’m hoping to get Greg (lead guitar for DyeV) to add one in.

You are correct on both points- No bass here, and yes, I agree it needs one. I’m hoping to get this over to Yohanna (my band’s bass player) to add it.

Thank you for all the great feedback on the mix! When you hear something enough, it’s hard to know what to add or change. And thank you for the compliment! When I first started learning guitar, I had zero interest in writing music, but that has obviously changed and now it’s all I want to do :laughing: I’m always trying to learn and get better.

That’s a good idea! I love adding dramatic pauses (if you haven’t seen my song “She” , from last year that’s a good example) and this one may sound cool with them too. I’ll have to experiment with my bandmates and see what works!

Man, that blew the old dust out of my ears, Jenn! Great stuff and so good to hear something originating from you again on here. The tune will definitely sound great with DyeV, but does also work in this way already. Love the power in the vocal performance, great lyrics, too. I could see you perform it in my head as well and it was killer! :sign_of_the_horns:

Hopefully some more of your bits and pieces of songs will find there way in a final state very soon. :slight_smile:

That was a nice surprise!
Like Justin I felt the song would benefit from an improved mix, but otherwise…

Wow! :collision: :grinning_face: Great song - excitingly played and sung!
That must have been fun to write and record when you had gotten a few bits together and while adding tracks already felt it was going to be good!
This is the feeling I got too rarely yet, but I’m always looking forward to repeat :slight_smile:

Great guitars! That second one sounds really special, I hope I can get some tone like this too, reminds me of the 80s and the Police, but you surely know other references too.
And big compliments to Dan on the drums too! :slight_smile:

Yes, it was a lot of fun :grin: That is one of my favorite parts of the songwriting process for sure! It’s always such a good feeling hearing the sound in my head translate to a recording and sound good :wink:
