Steve, from what I’ve read in the emails, BLIM Class 5 has been extended to a 12 month course. Same course but 2 months for each unit instead of 1 month. It’ll still be quite intense but you’ll have more time to practice in each unit.
I was surprised that Mathieu tagged me here, but at times, we talk to each other about our guitar journey and often can motivate each other which is great!
I can understand that he loved how seriously you’re taking your practice!
Sorry for me intruding here, but you log is really nice! And I am sure you’ll have a great time in Blim! See you soon over there! ![]()
03Oct2026 - I just finished the preparation phase of BLIM. Fortunately, I did my initial short video of blues improv over a backing track early in the month of September. Three weeks ago I was knocked down by a large dog in my neighborhood while holding our 2 small dogs and fell down and rolled about 10 feet down a shallow hill of clay and rocks. I sprained my right shoulder and just started physical therapy this past week. I had my arm in a sling for two weeks, so I spent a lot of time listening to the blues
Fortunately you don’t have to move your arm much to play blues lead ![]()
I can understand that many want to go directly from grade 3 (or even grade 2
) to the BLIM course, but I think that the grade 4 blues lessons I have worked on (specifically the ESSENTIAL BLUES LEAD GUITAR lessons) ) will help me get more out of the first couple of months of BLIM. Also, going back and finally finishing all the grade 3 transcription lessons was also helpful.
Hi Steve, I hope you’ll recover soon from the “dog accident”, I send you my best wishes! You did great to invest the time in listening!
As for the Steady Thumb Blues video you shared I just wanted to say that I remember finding it really challenging to be able to speed it up…keeping time is definetely not easy but easier if you go slow and eventually it becomes just a matter of practice. I feel a bit ashamed I didn’t revisit it anymore, probably because it felt so challenging to play…you inspired me to give it another go, though I don’t know when yet.
I’m looking foward to more videos, when you’ll feel better, you seem well on your way to master it!
Hope you and both your dogs are ok and recovering well.
I think this will serve you better for BLIM.
Enjoy the course.
Silvia, thanks, I am doing better now and hopefully physical therapy will take care of the shoulder soreness. I will also set aside the Steady Thumb Blues piece for now while completing BLIM this next year. I am sure I will return to it when I purchase and complete the Solo Blues course in the future.
James, I am doing better now and hopefully my shoulder will improve with physical therapy and won’t interfere with my playing. So far I am enjoying the BLIM course immensely and hope that I can maintain the focus for 6 months plus the 2 extra months added for consolidation. ![]()
Hopefully you can bounce back after that canine catastrophe. I’m sure there’s some Blues lyrics that could be written to highlight that tail of woe.
Yes, I could have the “I’m Knocked Down” blues or the “Rolling Over Stones” blues ![]()
