"Suicide is Painless" song cover

Hi John. Thanks for your kind comments. Yes, I do play it a bit slower than the original, though I find that I consistently play it in 2:05 minutes plus or minus a couple seconds. I think I just like the feel of it slower - less TV show peppy and more somber. @C_McG suggested the Manic Street Preachers cover, to which I replied, “it’s like Johnny Mandel meets Mötley Crüe. I’ll have to drink three espressos :hot_beverage: :hot_beverage: :hot_beverage: and figure out how to jam along.”

Hi Michael & congratulations on a well-done song! Enjoyed your interpretation of a classic theme song!

Nothing wrong here… I rarely try to match the tempo exactly when playing covers… for one thing, it’s always a bit different than the original no matter how hard I try to get it “perfect”! Also, changing the tempo changes the vibe & helps to make a song “your own version”…

Thanks for posting!!!

Hi Tod. Thanks for the encouragement! This was a while ago. I remember I said I would post a fingerstyle version of this, so now you’ve spurred me to get on that! This is the second song I decided I wanted to learn, right after Dead Flowers (D-A-G).
Play on,
Michael

Nice job. The first bar and memories came flooding back to me. Not easy to maintain rhythm on a performance like this but you did.

Thank you Mike!

Well done Michael. A tough assignment to take on and you have all the building blocks to make it into something you can put your own stamp on and be very proud of.

In the absence of having a really crisp melody picking out the individual notes which correspond with the lyrics, I might slow the rhythm to a consistent slower but steady pace so the listener can walk with you.

Just my thoughts. Still enjoyable and what a show of a generation
