Yes, I was wondering that too. Leo Fender moved to the 6 saddle bridge with G&L and I assume he may have known a thing or two.

Also, what weight did you get, Rachel? You said the one you tried and liked in the shop was 3.7kg. What did you end up with?

Like Ian, I’m also curious about your desire to change the saddles. The 3 saddle setup is pretty much always a compromise (I presume it was a cost saving idea from Leo!).

Hi All,

To answer the few questions above…

  1. The Pickups - I first thought of the Tonerider Alnico 2 Blues Pickups but after hearing them against the Fender '64 Vintage Pickups, I preferred the Fender ones. Unfortunately, it’s a lottery on the pickups until they are fitted because hearing them in YT video’s you don’t get the complete sound due to video and sound compression etc.
  2. The Saddle bridges - After looking at the setup of the 3 saddle bridges v the 6 block saddles, I agree, the 6 saddle are easier to setup compared to the 3 saddle, so they are staying. I might just change the blocks to a smooth shiny chrome finish as they have a more dull chrome finish at the moment. That is something for down the road.

So for the moment, I’m just going to enjoy the tele as is and maybe do the pickups in a month or two. I just want to see how the current ones sound for a while. The tele weighs ±3.5kg

I agree entirely. It’s really difficult to know how a guitar will sound just based on YouTube videos. I often watch comparisons of different guitars or pickups and listening through weak computer speakers doesn’t give you any idea what it really sounds like. I’m sure both of those pick-up choices will be great.

Many hours of happy playing! Don’t make too many changes too quickly: you may grow to love the sound as it is. However it’s set up, enjoy the ride.
