Tentative discussion on how to mark the passing of forum friends

Cheers for splitting the thread, Richard. It allows more light-hearted chit-chat and expression of different opinions, without the risk of disrespect

I’m not a great fan of herd mentality- Clicking ‘likes’/ wishing people Happy Birthday etc., just because it pops up on your timeline/feed.
I just can’t see it becoming a problem, going by how few we have been made aware of.
Of course, if someone has an active profile on the site, folk will express their feelings, but that will happen naturally anyway.
I much prefer to tell people I like/admire them when they’re alive, rather than to beat my chest when they die.
If we are informed of the death of a member, it’s highly likely that will include a ‘death notice’, which often contains info on their/their family’s wishes, as well as the opportunity to share memories and offer condolences. Mari has one on the link that was shared initially.

This has a nice balance of humour, intelligence and gravitas (no pun intended )
