Teasing us with a still, I just plugged in my headphones!
Haha, I need to drop this into the BLIM Record Yourself thread in the morning first, before Justin checks in. My weekend post got buried under a shed load of posts and he never back tracked to those two recordings. Ironic as 60% of those post were my comments on other Blimmer’s recordings. So you’ll get to see it twice Paul, as I will drop it in here, as part of my Blues Saga(Chapters) and try and get another acoustic session done in the morning.
The upside is I am finally getting over my severe RBS stumbles, so all is good at MMS at the moment.
Hey Toby, I much enjoyed all the 4 recordings…those two voicings pieces look anything but easy! I don’t understand much about Blues but I can well say you seem to be more than ready to immerse with Justin and all this cheerful crew into the Blue seas of Blues Have fun!
Haha I was thinking that madman is trying to break the record of number of AVoYPs posted in 24 hours
Edit:
And before Rogier checks in
Well played, Toby!
I watched all the videos.
Acoustic ones are especially good
I would have to spend a month learning fingerstyle
Leo
OK folks its time to bring this Chapter to a close with one last post.
It is not the Acoustic Blues I said I would post, as I had a mare of a morning with it. Could not get a clean run and ended up getting tense and very frustrated So I decided that, having been on a bit of a roll, it was time to quit while I was ahead. I’ll keep working on it and I plan to learn the next one from the Hamburger Essentials, so watch this space.
So, as always planned, I’m finishing off with the “this is where I am now” recording, that Justin asked all the BLIM course members to do. So this has been a trimmed & cut from the post in the suburbs. For some reason I was pretty tense when playing this, compared to the other two “electric” blues I shared.
Got this down after half a dozen takes. the lasts having less errors and one missed lick, clock the face. Felt a bit stiff compared with the two recorded earlier but it was good enough to say this is where I am right now.
As per AVOYP feedback welcome. RBS & nerves played a part, all felt a little wooden.
The next Blues Chapter will be in a couple months, as there will be some recording requirements throughout the course. So I will happily share with the folks here in the big city.
PMT Live calls at the top of the hour, so I’ll respond to folks who’ve replied recently later.
Take care folks.

This post is a photo only, I don’t see video/audio Toby.
I’m glad to hear this, I will look forward to your next posts, and any that other BLIM folk share that I can find!
Thank you for pointing that out, now fixed. And yes hopefully other JGC regulars will share their BLIM recordings as well. Maybe some of the new BLIM folks as well, as we are encouraging them to look outside of their bubble.
Love it, Toby, somewhere in the middle of the first half I said out loud ‘ooo I like that!’ Very nicely played. I really liked the theme building, and the repetition, and I love the slow bends.
That would be nice to hear for sure!
Thanks for listening Mari and for the feedback. Some of those licks I would normally play much faster but I was trying to be careful, maybe a little too careful. Lets see how things improve in the months to come.
Thanks for that Silvia to be honest, I doubt if the acoustic pieces are that different from of the songs you have shared. Technique is pretty much the same, just the feel and timing is a little different.
Hey Leo good to see you and thanks for listening.
Don’t forget I’ve been learning the fingertstyle Blues for good 18 months and I think this makes 14 that I have learnt in that period, Most are still work in progress tempo wise and I’ve still to get #14 recorded.
All good fun and the melody lines are all transferable, so helps the improvs and soloing, with additional words and phrases.
Always something new to learn !
Possibly a cover of the madmans BLIM Recording
What a diligent man you are, Toby! Can’t open the community site without seeing a new post from you . I really appreciate your gesture to let us be part of your big blues adventure. Good to see you so excited and motivated.
Your last recording shows, that you are well prepared, although I felt a bit more inner “tension” than on the others. Nevertheless, it’s a formidable starting line and I hope you have a blast in the subburbs, as you call it!
Yesterday at the end of the day I also clicked on the photo ( 3/4 times )and thought "Oh you meant a photo to end this topic, I thought didn’t read it properly …again , but I also thought I heard sound with this thumbnail foto at BLIM when you the only one who has posted more than one video and maybe Justin will see it this time (I haven’t heard anything about mine either , but I’m totally okay with that, I’m good at self-analyzing )
11 days to kick off…pfff
I feel like a kid waiting for his birthday…COME ON
Greetings
Thanks for that Andrea, I do my best to feed the beast. On the playing, yeah one felt oddly tight and there felt little flow. Being an impro once I decided on the licks that went with the BT I just went for it but was conscious of screwing up. The other two I’d been playing end to end for a couple of months, so was able to get into the groove. Guess I am hoping that is something that develops more organically as the course progress. I’ll let you know if it does.
Again thanks for listening and your kind words.
Sorry about that Roger, trying to be too clever. I should have just pasted the BLIM entry here. Obviously putting it in blockquotes, went pear shaped and it turned the YouTube link into a still photo. Live and learn.
Thinks there have been a couple of folk who have doubled up in that post. My second was more about meeting the assignment, not seeing there was a backing track to use. Guess I was a bit giddy and wanted to jump in and get some recording done. As to JS there is only so much the man can listen to and he is no doubt preparing for this evenings BLIM Live. That said given the 666 has now moved to around 750, not a lot of folk seem to be immersing themselves in that thread, with only a few providing feedback. Early days, things may change.
Will see you this evening, enjoy the last day of Spring.
No no…thanks for the laugh
100% true ,I actually thought at first that that wasn’t quite what Justin asked…but on the other hand “who cares about that” not me
yes, I noticed that too about many video`s missing …but still a lot of time and some like to give there best ,but that is not useful if you want to make big jumps …the feedback , even though people asked, not really the intention of that topic… just a point zero, and later we’ll see what we pick up from the course …
I hope I can make it tonight, nine o’clock in the evening is often a time when my bump and back can no longer hold up after a long day of sitting, but I will do my best tonight
By Spring … Ps:Speaking of ants, Brian was in Paris this morning and expects to be here again early next week
The prodigal sun ( ) returns @brianlarsen hope you are watching when you can and safe on your travels !
I almost missed this amazing thread full of little blues treats!
Those were some smooth little tunes, Toby. I went through top to bottom and enjoyed all of them. Especially the acoustic blues with the steady thumb vibes with me, but I also thoroughly enjoyed your BLIM-marker Impro. There were some nice elements in and put together well.
Can’t offer much but applause, I think you are also very well set up to start the BLIM. I’m looking forward to all the bits and pieces of the journey you and some of your fellow blimmers are going to share with us. Enjoy the ride!
