The Wind - Cat Stevens, feedback appreciated!

Very, very pretty and so well done. Also, your vocal volume and your tone sounded really good to me. Not sure about the balance between guitar and voice. Maybe someone on here could guide you about that if you wanted. I usually put my mic pointing near the 12th fret and height-range between the sound hole and mouth. Anyway, nice to meet you and hope to hear more soon.

Thanks for sharing this, haven’t heard this song in a while and it is such a great song, isn’t it? You’re playing it very well already (I love the pull-offs on the D chord, they sound effortless!) and your singing reminds me of Cat’s version, so lovely!

Given you have asked for feedback, here are a few small things I noticed: a) use a capo like it has been suggested by others already. experiment with 1 or 2 frets until the strain in your voice on the very low notes disappears. b) work on the Em / Bm changes to get them a bit smoother - they are pretty good as they are I only noticed on third watch and c) that G# on the 6th string at the end of the chorus - you are using your middle finger but that means that you need to move your hand a lot. Try and fret the note with your ring finger or even better pinky - it may take a while to get them up to strength but it will be worth the effort.

Gosh!
not long ago a friend showed me a lesson of this and I thought to me “sort of a dreamer song, but doable in some overviewable timeframe”.
But now that you posted it - I couldn’t achieve the level your performance anyway, haha!

Very very well played and sung!

Thanks for the input! I will be sure to try and report back

Thank you so much Molly for the detailed feedback! This is great.

  1. Absolutely, I’ve tried it since, and you are correct! Capoed on the first fret does sound better to my ear too
  2. Thank you! These are things I don’t notice while playing myself, thank you for catching that and I will practice!
  3. This is a great point and one I’ve been trying to dabble with, I tried the ring and pinky first but just wasn’t able to land it in time and was too lazy to commit to muscle memory as this worked for the time being, but this is also something I’ll try and work on.

I truly appreciate all of your inputs!
