Ti amo by U. Tozzi - Chord Melody Arrangement

Haha, if you put it that way, it makes me think that not so many among us might have heard enough "Ti amo"s in a row lately :joy: … well, but totally undeservedly I’d say, you lovely people!

Very nice Silvia!
You for the most part keep good timing, even when the eyes wonder over the fretboard and the sound hole. You are very close to really lighting up songs such as this and your arrangements, or playing of them are great.

Keep up the good work and be well,
LBro

@Helen0609 @sairfingers @DeltaTyne @MiJoy @Willsie @pkboo3 such beautiful words of praise of my arrangement! I’ll take the 15% of it as I think I did a more than decent work…the remaining 85% goes to this beautiful song, its authors and performer…(back then when that I-Tune or whatever it is called didn’t exist)

Well, it wouldn’t be me without missing or even adding a few beats :joy:
But it doesn’t matter really as long as the overall feeling is good :innocent:

So sadly true  but there are many ways to express feelings…just the other day my husband came home with 2 freshly made cannoli siciliani… these below (picture from the Internet)

…and, I apologise if it doesn’t sound romantic, but whoever knows what they taste like must agree that they count as 200 "Ti amo"s :joy:

…Da Da Da Da Da Da :microphone::musical_notes:

The real Nostalgia here is for that time when artists would never be allowed to use things like I-Tune in the national most important Songs Contest, if it ever had existed…and yet they produced such great masterpieces. They used playback a lot, it’s true, but it’s not the same. I feel ashamed of this, we have really a great Artists and Music tradition and it’s like we’re killing it…what are we teaching to the young generations?

This is so cool, sourcing notes from different octaves, a flow of notes with the pronounced and spaced melody over the top. All of that with a solid cadence all the way thorugh

sento suonare due chitarre!
I hear 2 guitars playing!

Very well done, instantly recognizeable!

Yes, I can definitely see what you mean!

Hehe, I’m not sure you are aware that I (and presumably Dominique) are referring to the French station Radio Nostalgie, which plays this type of music all the time. I love it

Reminds me of a famous line in The Godfather:
ā€œLeave the gun, take the cannoli.ā€

(and the da da da was an ā€˜earworm’ from Trio )

I use that quote on a regular basis.
I said it about 20 times when in Italy scoring pastries with my family. They absolutely did not get it. I didn’t care.

Thanks for your feedback Lieven! What I’m doing here is trying to ā€œimitateā€ the singing through the guitar :microphone:

If you listen to the original recording you will hear the different octaves…also that Ti amo repeated second voice is sung in the lower octave at the beginning and then in the higher octave after the verses has developed to the higher octave. Mindful Listening

As for the cadence the song is in 12/8 and I found a trick to remind myself to put a bit of accent on the 1, 2, 3, 4 when it didn’t come natural: simply in one of the sections I alternate the bass note of the chord on the beat (every three melody notes). Then with practice it became more natural to accent the beats.

Yeah, I like how you nailed that; I know the song very well and you integrated all that in the moments I expected them. Quite the study! <3

oh ?
Is it possible to listen to it online ?

In France a singer knows he’s getting old the day his songs are aired on Nostalgie

I really wonder how @brianlarsen knows about Nostalgie though :open_mouth:

Very lovely, Silvia! You are advancing much faster than I am - I guess I need to practice more!

The only suggestion I can give you (because I am guilty of the same myself, and it is a hard habit to break) is to relax that right-hand pinky. Allow it to curl in with your other fingers, and I think you will feel less tension in your right hand, especially the middle and ring fingers. I know many people plant their pinky when playing to provide a reference point, but you do not play that way (probably because your main focus is classical, like me), so I’d give a go at keeping it more relaxed. I often notice an improvement in my playing (tone, legato, etc.) when I catch myself and correct it.

Try this exercise to see what I mean. First, extend your pinky and make a plucking motion with your ring finger. Next, do the same, but allow your pinky to sympathetically move with your ring finger. I think you’ll feel the difference immediately. Less tension equals smoother playing. The same is true when free stroking with any finger. You want to keep the fingers as relaxed as possible to allow sympathetic movement to occur.

Another thing my instructor always harped on was follow-through on free strokes. He wanted to see that finger touch my palm below the thumb. Now that’s not always possible, depending on the music, but if you want a good strong note with good tone, it’s a great piece of advice, and it really helped me with my tone.

I always look forward to hearing you play. Keep up the great work, and I’ll try to catch up to you

For decades, every winter Geraldine and I used to make a pilgrimage from either Paris (before kids) or Geneva (with kids) for a week’s skiing in Chamonix
First thing I do when I’m on the autoroute is tune in Radio Nostalgie… :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: :musical_notes:
