Too early for Christmas songs? Some Chuck Berry

I did a little demo for our band who have a gig on Dec 12 … thought I’d put it up here as it’s just 49 days to Christmas!!

No Problemo Paul

I listen just to it like a nice rock and roll song …nothing wrong with that here in early november the sun and a fine 18c later today :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: :sun: ( the nice bi-phenomena of a warming earth here…hey , I must look for something positive in it ) :sun:

Well Paul, at least you waited until after Halloween to start posting Christmas songs. But if anyone does their rendition of Maria Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You” I’m gonna SCREAM! :scream:

We did Run Rudolph Run at band practice last night. We’ll have a different singer to previous years though, which means a change of key. So I’m now on the hunt for a version in Bb (the Chuck Berry og. is in C) to Jam to. Every singer/ band and their dogs have done a version so I may be in luck.

My Favourite version (other than Chuck’s) is by the Foo Fighters. And Lemmy’s version is something to be listened to (maybe once, then not until next Christmas at the earliest ).

Mine’s in Bb

Alternatively I use the Transpose Chrome extension to change keys in YouTube videos.

As an aside, do you record your rehearsals? We always do, it’s really useful to practice with!

Whatever category a song gets put into there’s going to be good ones and your cover Paul is good and I’m happy to listen to it any time of year you decide to share.

very well done  - that was fun to listen to, Paul!
I wouldn’t be overly keen on listening to “Oh Tannenbaum” and the likes, but this is fine for me any time (doesn’t really invoke christmas feelings here).

Thanks Guys - If you slur the lyrics and squint then it’s kind of ‘Roll over Beethoven’

Fun rendition of run rudolph run!

Not too early, now is the time to be rehearsing christmas repertoire!

Every day a bit, recall, polish, play and a good night of sleep to save it to your hard drive ^^
every day a bit better

That’s really nice Paul!! Great Rhythm all the way through and you sing very well too! Might there be something on the sound of the solos that maybe you can improve somehow? I wouldn’t be able to tell to be honest, sometimes my ear wished the notes to ring out longer…well you’ve got a whole month before your gig…but it’s already really cool as it is!

Christmas season starts on 12 November for me but as others have pointed out you need to practise ahead of time, right? And this version is a fun one, only the lyrics make it Christmas. Loved your video!

Ah, so we can have a jam. I did wonder if yours was in Bb. I was fairly confident I’d find one - not quite that quickly though.

Yes we do. But only once we are happy we play them well enough. We hadn’t played together since June, so Wednesday’s practice was more about runnng through the set list and checking we were still somewhere like close.

Nice one Paul.
Its always the right time for Blues Rock my friend.

Gee, Xmas looming already…that means Mariah Carey will be coming out of the ocean soon for the usual festive onslaught…I much prefer listening to you my friend.

Cheers, Shane

Thanks folk - It’s a fun tune to play

Hey Silvia - the ‘staccato’ sound is a deliberate choice - although I know what you mean, it sounds different in the context of the full band

Oh yeah, I can see there might be a few cobwebs to blow away!

Yes, now I get it. I experienced recording a melody and felt like the notes sounded like kind of “naked”, but as soon as I put it together with its accompainement some magic happened and I heard how much the sound was sustained/supported by it.
Why it didn’t occur to my mind that in a band with different instruments this would happen even more?! :woman_facepalming::see_no_evil_monkey: Thanks for explaining! :slightly_smiling_face:
