Update - after the event report. Bob Dylan gig - no phones allowed

Thought it was only right that I should post an “after the event” update.

The gig was absolutely terrific. Dylan really is one of a kind though. Absolutely no interaction with the audience. He walked on stage, sat down behind his piano (he was barely visible) and played non stop for 1 hour 45 minutes. Then stood up and walked off. No encores.

Bob certainly doesn’t do “my greatest hits”.
He performed a mixture of older songs and a lot from his rough and rowdy album which I wasn’t familiar with. Even the old stuff wasn’t immediately recognisable as the songs have been deconstructed and reconstructed with different melodies and different phrasing. But the whole set was performed in a mesmerising way with an excellent vocal and along with his piano playing there was lots of real “that could only be Dylan” harmonica.
His band was really tight. Two guitars, one who also played electric slide, a bass player who alternated between electric bass and an upright double bass and a drummer.

At times you got the impression that the guitars were improvising to Dylan’s piano/vocal which gave some of the songs a “jam” feeling which was very intimate.
Overall a fabulous concert.

As to my original post about the mobile phone issue, it actually worked really well. After you went through security and had your ticket verified you were given a pouch to put your phone in and the pouch was then locked. You kept the pouch with you and after the event it was unlocked. It was great to enjoy the show without people standing up everywhere and photographing/videoing everything.
Now, whether the reason for all this is to allow the audience to become fully engaged with the concert or whether Dylan/his promoters don’t want unauthorised video footage appearing on the internet, is open to debate!

maybe the reason for no mobile phones was so that you couldn’t record the impersonator :winking_face_with_tongue:

Oh you cynic James.
Anyway Scotland v Denmark is about to start on tv. World Cup qualifier. BD concert discussion to be continued. :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

Here’s last night’s set list if anyone is interested.

For me the standout would have been “Desolation Row”, which is one of his best songs, all-time, imo.

“Every Grain of Sand” to finish it up must have been pretty sweet, too.

Thank you, Gordon for your report, it was interesting to read and I’m happy you had a great day even if Bob only played just a very few of his well known and beloved songs!

I’ll have to find a video of this match!
While I’m always impressed by how good “smaller” countries like Denmark can be eg. at handball and football, I am definitely very happy for Scotland! Happy to see you qualified!

Clearly some people manage to sneak some photos!

Some people manage to record audio of the whole show, post it on Youtube and make it available for download in flac. Like in good old bootleg times
