Wow what a great gift, you are a lucky gal Jen! I think with the quote above you answered your own question here - as long as there is not a sudden expiry date on your gift then take your time and come up with some nice original. And of course once recorded share it with us

I think the important thing is to select a song you know very well and are ready to record. It doesn’t matter if it’s an original or a cover. If you’ve got such a song already, then I’d get the session booked. I wouldn’t delay while I wrote a new song, I’d seize the day, make it happen, and enjoy the experience. There’s no reason this has to be the only song you ever record in a studio, after all.
