This decade? Bit to soon to be finding classics. Iāll come back to this post on 7 years, assuming anything floats my boat.
Mention Top Classic Guitar Songs
Itās interesting. I remember walking through a local music store checking out CDs back in my last semester of University (I was a late bloomer and didnāt graduate until I was 40) and Nirvanaās āNevermindā album was playing. I knew as soon as I heard it that there was something special about it. Of course, I bought it. To this day I consider it special.
In the 80s there seems to be a steady flow of new musics that simply reached out and would grab your attention, your feelings, and your flow. And a lot of that music, for myself personally, that came out up though the 90s still has that affect on me.
Then after 2000, nothing really stands out. Yeah - Gangham Style. That isnāt to say that there hasnāt been some catchy stuff released. There has. But nothing that reaches into your soul and imprints itself there. So I guess music-wise, Iām stuck pre-2000. Which is why now Iām primarily drawn to Jazz exclusively. I can still get lost in Jazz, both classic and contemporary. Pretty strange for a guy who spent most of the 80s immersed in the East Bay punk scene although I did hit Jazz clubs in the Bay Area back in the 1980s as well. It was an incredible time for live music entertainment in clubs.
A few I can think for the 2000ās are
Coldplay - Yellow and The Scientist.
RHCP - Canāt Stop and By the way.
KT Tunstall - Black horse and a cherry tree.
Puddle of Mudd - Blurry.
Evanescence - Bring me to life and My Immortal.
Justin Timberlake - Cry me a river.
Train - Drops of Jupiter.
Jose Gonzalez - Heartbeats.
Outkast - Hey Ya.
Jamiroquai - Little L.
The Killers - Mr Brightside.
Orson - No tomorrow.
Hoobastank - The reason.
Nickelback - Rockstar.
The Ting Tings - Thatās not my name.
Fall Out By - This aināt a scene, itās an arms race.
The Fratelliās - Chelsea Dagger.
Audioslave - Cochise.
There are others but you canāt go on forever.
The 2010ās, well nothing much springs to mind. All a little samey and nothing I can think of for the last three years either.
Gawd Iām getting old or something. I donāt know any of those artists with the exception of hearing the name Outkast. Oh, and Jusin Timberlake although Iām not sure Iāve ever heard anything by him. When I hear his name I think of Brittany Spears who is water under the bridge.
Well, the newer āclassicsā will be enjoyed by a generation other than mine.
So? Back to jazz.
A lot of good suggestions have been made so far, but a few others come to mind from artists I havenāt seen mentioned yet.
2000s
My Chemical Romance - āWelcome to the Black Paradeā or āTeenagersā
Linkin Park - āIn the Endā or āNumbā
Lady Gaga - āPoker Faceā
Eminem - āLose Yourselfā
Johnny Cash - āHurtā
The Strokes - āLast Niteā
Anything more recent than that is harder for me.
