What do you use for a metronome

Depends what I’m doing. I often use a Korg MA-1 digital metronome because it’s small/portable/convenient. If I have a computer hooked up to decent speakers I’ll use a software drum machine or a drum track at the appropriate bpm, which sounds a lot better and more musical than a metronome click. If I’m at a piano I like to use an analog pendulum metronome, just because I think they’re cool.

I use what ever is handy at the time and can keep a beat. :slightly_smiling_face:

Interesting on the cow bell tone. I think that’s what got me thinking about what folks are using. I’m doing a song that I’ve yet to complete that has a cowbell running near through the whole song.
That fancy metronome ya got there Deborah would be just the ticket for me at this moment. And using a metronome on this song is near a absolute necessity. The cowbell don’t lie about the tempo. Get out of tempo and the cowbell would be impossible to work in.

Alas, assuming I complete my song, at this point it’s gonna be just me and my guitar, no cowbells… :frowning: It woulda worked perfect.

I’ll grab the keys and a stable member !!

Rick @stitch.
That great.
Check this out, a video where a band did a whole song using a old tractor as the metronome.
It worked perfect.
or perhaps it’s the whole percussion section

For sure, these improvisations for a metronome are most unique. But oh my. They can work!

That’s the same video I posted.
How about some water pump blues.

Thats outstanding.

I knew someone put me onto it. I just didn’t remember it was you. Thanks.
I was impressed with it so much it stuck in my mind and I was able to google it as I couldn’t find that I’d bookmarked it.

I’m down with the waterpump blues too.

Amazing what ya can use for a metronome.

Thanks for sharing that too.

I posted it 2 days ago in this thread. Check my post number 42 April 7th.

I have also posted it other time in this Forum and the old forum. Hence Toby’s response to the video.

I’ve tried to contact the service but no answer. The justinguitar metronome app will probably no longer be maintained or further developed. The last actualization was 2021.

I like this. I use a variety of metronome tools from my phone to web apps but I’m always annoyed by how many clicks it takes to get them going. I also don’t like using a metronome outside of really focused practice. I much prefer drum tracks and original recordings for when I’m ā€œplaying to have funā€ but still want to keep time.

Drum track apps are even worse in that regard. I have a little portable NUX amp and the companion app for it is a real PITA to get a drum track playing. So many clicks to get into that section and then they’re sorted by ā€œstyleā€ but not really even all that well and sometimes I end up not liking the drum track that seems like it might be good for the song I’m playing, so I end up with a drum track from a COMPLETELY different genre. And you can’t really vary those drum tracks enough. You can vary the tempo and that’s it.

This isn’t especially cheap, but I like how flexible it is. Might also be handy to bring along to an acoustic jam to help people stay in time. How loud can it get?

Just put it on my wish list at Sweetwater. We’ll see how long it takes before I buy one.
