Hi All,
Just an update and maybe some tips I have encountered in learning the Pentatonic Scales Major and Minor.
- Learn all the 5 pattern shapes of the Pentatonic. This will make things a lot easier. Both the Major and Minor use the same pattern shapes. The only difference is pattern 1 (Minor) is pattern 5 (Major)
- Example: Pattern 1 (Minor) always starts on 6th string going down the neck for every note.
- Example: Pattern 5 (Major) which is the same as pattern 1 (Minor) also starts on the same position but goes up the neck and then every pattern then moves down the neck like the Minor Pentatonic.
The only exception to this is the ‘G’ Major which starts on the 15 fret 6 string going up the neck.
And as you know the shapes and the notes on the fretboard, working out the starting points for each shape is then easy.
See the pictures I attached.
Hope this helps. I found once I had the shapes memorised, learning the scales for each note was easier for both Major and Minor.
