Great stuff Gordon. Not an easy song to sing but you got it spot on.
Gordon
My guitar is a 1974/75 Kiso Suzuki FE150: these wre infamous in their day as Martin rip-offs and the subject of lawsuits. I wasn’t aware of any of this at the time and I’ve happily played this guitar for nearly 50 years. Nice to see and hear the original article being put to such good use.

Late to this party, but glad I got here.
As always a delight to hear you play and sing, Gordon, to watch an appreciate the smooth, effortless, relaxed way you play. Such great rhythm and feel, the picked notes, embellished chords.
The simple recording works well, but I still wish I could hear your voice in a better balance with the guitar. You have such a great voice, and I felt you nailed the Petty vibe, Scottish and all.
You are one of the many that give me the opportunity to fight off my own envy
I know how you feel about how rusty and forgetful one gets. I had the same experience getting back into set up for an OM a few weeks back. Heaven help me if I open Reaper
Great job, my friend!!
I feel a bit of a fraud atm with this as I’m so far behind and off the pace. I might change it again in the not too distant future.
Thanks Gordon, I will try to do exactly what you say for my next strumming AVOYP which I’m expecting to be able to record in a couple of weeks…not sure I’ll be able to though, as at some point there’s always something that starts buzzing inside my head that makes me lose control on what I’m doing if only I could name that little buzzing beast!
@Lisa_S @MollyT
Thanks so much for the listen and kind comments. Much appreciated.
Thanks for the listen and support James. Musical talents….well……
Despite the dreadful summer weather we’ve had up here I’ve not been playing much recently. At this time of year I always seem to have a load of other things that take up my time. My fingertips were actually sore when I was practising this song!
@Boris1565 @Eddie_09
Thanks so much for the listen guys. As always it’s much appreciated.
Ah David you always say this! The thing is, as I said to someone else, I’m not trying to create a masterpiece, I’m just sharing songs with my Community friends. I’m grateful that those friends are willing to listen and comment on my efforts.
Thanks for your support over the many years we’ve been friends.
Hi John. The Blim was something that I gave a lot of thought to doing but felt that over the summer period it might be too all consuming.
What happens if you fall behind? Is there enough slack time in the course to allow you to catch up?
There is no right or wrong way to any of this Silvia. I do a first take one take. Others will pick the best out of umpteen takes. Others use DAW and cut and paste bits of vocal and guitar and stitch it all together. It all depends on what you want to achieve and also how much time you want to spend creating the song.
The same goes for the recording equipment process. Mine is totally minimalist. Others use mics and fancy cameras. Others use their DAW and spend days/weeks creating multitrack, multi instrument masterpieces that are indistinguishable from the original.
Whatever floats your boat. Horses for courses.
Often yes, but not always . Sometimes maybe you sing louder, play softer or have the phone positioned slightly differently. But yes, I know. I should not be such a stuck old gramaphone. I just love your voice, as Justin often speaks about, it’s all about feel. And you have great feel and personality which comes across.
Gordon, you and your performances are like a fine !
I sit back, relax and enjoy!
Great job!
Top strumming there Gordon, and relaxed vocal over it
I like how you get the hit through the strings quick and even
@oldhead49 @GDPiper169 @Eccleshall
Thanks for the support guys, glad you enjoyed the song.
Talking of fine wine Dave, it’s almost wine o’clock here!
I don’t think you can get behind in the sense that the material is always available to you. Plus the BLIM community on the forum and lots of (too many) WhatsApp chats. Not obligatory of course. I think the word they use in education for the type of course is asynchronous: students working separately at different times. Having said that, there are videos which would be nice to catch live but will always be available afterward. In designing the course Justin realises there are a range of abilities and wide variation in the amount of time each individual can or wants to put into the course. Whether it’s all consuming depends on you I think. I get the impression there are some who seem to spend a lot of time on it.
In the first 2 units I have played catch up at the end of the month with the lessons because “life” has got in the way. I’ve not managed to contribute much to the community because of lack of time. I will never be up with the pace setters and will need to return to some things after everything is released. Was it ever thus! I do think I’m learning a lot of useful stuff. I like the discipline of a path to follow, one step at a time. HTH.
Thanks for the detailed reply John. That’s an interesting insight.
Solid cut! Chock full of jangly goodness. Owned it.
Gordon as usual picking up all the hearts and glory from fellow posters with his lovely one take Thursdays (even if those happen on Wednesdays)! Fabolous production, who doesnt love some Tom Petty? You delivered a solid production as usual, loved it.
Hey Gordon. Nice to hear you again. Superb show. You’ve got those hammer-ons down pat! They add so much to the enjoyment of the song.
Thanks Clint. Love it. Capo on 5 certainly changes the tone.
