I’m an almost 70-year old fossil that decided to learn how to play a 6-string acoustic guitar and a 6-string HSS electric guitar at age 61. In my teenage years, I was a bass guitarist for a local Richmond, Virginia, USA band. After college and living in Roanoke, Virginia, USA, I joined another band as their bass guitarist.
Now in my late 60s, I’m struggling with a neurological disorder called MELAS which is the main reason I decided to learn 6-string guitar. The coordination required between my brain and fingers is therapeutic for my disabilities. I am also learning to play keyboard and drums for the same reason. I am also in a wheelchair. For breathing exercises, I am learning to play the harmonica. With my DAW, I can lay down multiple tracks making me a one-man band.
I really enjoy the learning experience with Justin Sandercoe’s various guitar lessons and related media. I am subscribed to several teaching aids here in order to give me the needed guidance as I relearn to play stringed instruments with neurological disorders. I’ve got a ways to go in the learning process but I can say that I’m very glad to have found this site.
