I am a 50-something who decided to get back into guitar after a long, long time without playing. I took some lessons when I was very young - probably between 5 and 7, but I have no idea how many. Either my parents didn’t think I was practicing enough to justify the cost or I lost interest, I’m not sure. I don’t remember the lessons at all. When I was a bit older, 16-17, I decided to do this on my own, got a few lessons from a Jazz guitarist, but he was older and got sick, so found a rock guy (this was in Greenwich Village in NYC) putting up ads for lessons on a lampost, so took lessons from him for a few months maybe? He basically asked me what song I wanted to learn and I said Led Zeppelin’s The Rain Song - this was mid 1980s). I again stopped lessons after just a little while probably more because of lack of finances.

I kept my guitars for another 15+ years, and occasionally noodled around with them, but not consistently.

Fast forward many years and my daughter started taking guitar, but she was more interested in singing, so we concentrated on singing lessons but she continued to learn guitar just on her own, and she still plays. When she moved away a couple of years ago, she left her electric Squire Strat here (she has a very nice acoustic that is amplified as her preferred guitar), and I just kind of ignored it until a month or so back I realized, hey, I could start learning again, on my own, at least to start, and found Justin, and started learning.

I’m pretty excited about rekindling this interest after so many years, and taking it on as a challenge (probably my main hobby right now). Right now (9/13), I’m currently working on Module 4, so still very early days! But hoping I can continue this initial excitement and build on it to develop a skill that was really never developed to any great extent when I was younger.
