I’m a beginner with guitar, but not to music. I’m learning using the JG Beginner Course, with the Dashboard and Practice Assistant. I also purchased the Beginner Course Book and both Beginner Songbooks. Also, I’m using the Gibson Learn & Master course, with the Bonus Content and Live Lesson Tuesday’s with Steve Krenz.
I played saxophone for 4 years in jr high and high school. During most of the 90’s I played bass in a blues/rock trio doing SRV & Double Trouble catalog and some Hendrix. I studied Tommy Shannon and the way he played, learning bass guitar. We did the local bar gig circuit 3-5 nights a week, with the occasional local festivals and benefits. I left that behind around 2001 to focus more on life, career, family and that sort.
My goal is to be an effective, unrehearsed pickup player in the Rhythm Guitar role, and to just strum along with my favorite music, getting into that headspaceas an escape. I want to develop my chord library, arpeggios and strum patterns to be effective, quick and colorful up & down the neck. I’m a Deadhead with a large collection of shows, so I’m studying Bob Weir and how he fills in the blanks but also has quite a few songs of his own.
I have 3 acoustics: Martin Backpacker, Yamaha FG800 and an Epiphone PR150. I have 2 electrics: Epiphone ES-335 Cherry (my main) and an Epiphone Les Paul PlusTop Pro in Heritage Cherry Burst. My Main practice amp is a PG Spark 40 and a Vox Pathfinder for occasional use. My Main amp is a Vox AC10C1, and the ES-335 simply sounds amazing through it. My Pedalboard is an Ernie Ball Volume → Tuner → Gate/compressor → Soul Food → Hall of Fame → Dual Looper.
