12 strings guitar. Finally I tried one!

It’s do weird… especially for the right hand. Everything feels wrong.
But it’s also SO MUCH FUN!

Hi Alexey I had one but I could not get away with it probably because it was not a top-of-the-range guitar so it was hard to set it up, but they do sound really nice for chords cheers hec

This is very affordable Martin X Series. With great setup (done by the store owner)

Yeah well that should be ok it sounded ok when you played it are you going for it ?

Not right now. It seems such guitar requires some new repertoire, and right now I have more than enough to work on, guitar wise…
I really liked the amp though. Fishman Loudbox 60W. It’s also quite affordable, lightweight… All you need for a gig.

That they are. They sound so jangley. Cool you got the chance to play one. They sure aren’t a 6 string, that’s for sure.

Yep, big and full.

fwiw, my 1st real guitar was a 12. The only guitar I had. All I ever learned to do was chords on it. Though I did play it as a 9 string on occasion. Not by choice. My high g was always the first to break. There was no music stores within miles of where I lived (this was in the 70’s, no internet).
Got me a novel idea and took the repetitive top B and E off. Viola, a 9 string. I used it that way as my first attempts at playing something other than chords on.

Still got it but it only sees the light of day on occasion. It’s ok though, it’s seen much play time, just in the past.
It’s now got all 12 strings on it too…

So ya gonna buy it Alexey? You’ve got the skills to put it to good use I’d think. Another tool in your tool bag.

Pretty impressive for first time on a 12 Alexey!

Sorry to hijack the thread but …

I love the whooooo at the end. Such a cool tone! I have an X series martin and do enjoy it.

I have to ask: how does 12-2=9?

He already broke his high G string, so he was down to 11 strings before removing the high B and E.

Thanks.

Aaaaaa6

But why I see just 6 strings?

Bad resolution?

@tonkyponky, look at the thickest string - you’ll see there are actually 2. You might know this, or not, but a 12 string guitar doesn’t have 12 strings in a row, like a 6 string, but 2 sets of 6 strings on top of each other.

Thank you for clarification. I have personally never seen 12 string guitar.

I love 12 string guitar sounds but hated playing them so now I cheat - the Boss OC3 (now replaced by OC5) has a setting that allows you to decide which strings you want to up or downtune, so I just uptune the bottom 4 strings and it sounds pretty decent. Mike Dawes uses this on his Bottom or bottom two strings downtuned to use as Bass. That’s what originally gave me the idea!
Nice Guitar, being the X series it’s also less expensive and less likely to get damaged by the weather conditions.

Paul Galbraith played a part in the development of the 8 string classical guitar and has recorded many works whose range could not be fully reflected on the six string instrument. Heree’s one of his performances, a shorter piece. I wonder if Justin’s spoken with him about the way he holds his guitar?

That was sounding great, Alexey!

I own a Martin DX 12-string and it is fun. Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound as well when I play it compared to you. In case you will go for a 12 string one day, I can only add you really get value for the bucks by buying one of the X-series, they are great guitars.
