Hi all, i am Nik, a 54 yr old new player from the uk. Ive been using the JG site for about a yr, my practice sessions vary a bit as my job is on the road a lot.
Loving the learning curve, and reading peoples progress. Ive got a baby taylor, great for the road when i can and a lovely prs mccarty 594 SE single cut my partner bought me last Christmas. I prefer acoustic guitar, but love both. Ive an Alverez Laureate Dreadnought on its way, but thats been on order since January.
I so see what people mean when saying singing and guitar together is so much harder. My singing is terrible , but still enjoy myself.
Welcome to the forum Nik
Thank you!
Welcome Nik! You’re in good company here…Lots of folks melding guitar into the rest of life’s demands, a fair number of folks who feel we probably shouldn’t sing in public. Hope to see you around!
Thanks judi
welcome to the forum
Hi Nik, welcome to the community forum.
Thanks both, so glad ive started playing. Cant put it down when i am home lol
Hey Nick, welcome to the forum. Great to read about your progress. Keep up the singing and playing, your voice is a form of a muscle, the more you exercise it, the better it gets. And it’s darn good fun
Thanks Tony, i appreciate that advice.
I recorded myself and noticed my notes sort of warble/ fluctuate so trying to actively concentrate on articulating each word.
Welcome to the community. Yes it’s difficult to sing and play at the same time. Still struggling with that but having fun !!!
What I found with playing and singing is choice of song, esp in the beginning really matters. Choose a song where the start of the singing is fairly closely aligned to the chord changes.
When the singing and the chord changes are at different beats / syncopated, it’s a lot harder.
I’ve been playing and singing for 12 or so years and singing a lot. There are still certain new songs that take a fair bit of effort for me. Margaritaville was one of the harder ones. The singing comes in at about the 5th 1/8th note in the 3rd bar. Which meant, if strumming using the old faithful strum pattern, it was on one of the ups.
nice to meet you Nik cheers HEC also UK
Thank you, appresiate the welcomes.
Its a funny thing, with singing, guitar and the theory. The frustration and the attraction is how complex it is. Part artist, part engineer i think. Love the fact i can go on learning, well forever really.
Hi Nik,
Welcome here and I wish you a lot of fun
Greetings,Rogier
Welcome Nik, as Tony said, keep on singing, it does become easier the more you practice. A little like playing a musical instrument.
Hello Nik & Welcome!!!
PRS makes some really good guitars! What amp do you use with it?
I hope you enjoy yourself immensely while playing… having fun is the best & most important thing!!! After all, it’s called “Playing Guitar” for a reason!!’
Good luck!
Tod from New Mexico USA
Ive the new katana 50w
But i tend to play without pmugging in or with headphones as neighbours and thin walls!
My Katana is the 50w Mk II… love this amp!
I also have a tube amp, the Harmony H605… can’t play through it with headphones so I have to wait till the house is empty to jam! Even with the built in attenuation, it can be pretty loud!!!
Tod
Nice to have the tube as well.
The prs is lovely to play but not the same without a bit of volume on the amp.
Mind you i do love acoustic, and when the Dreadnought arrives it can have a bit of volume unplugged.
