This is the 1st time I’d played a guitar live in a band. I wrote a bit in the “just chatting” section about why. Guitar debut in a band (Moderators: feel free to combine the posts).
We did 3 other songs: Don’t Stop (Fleetwood Mac); Good Riddance (Green Day) and Don’t Look Back in Anger (Oasis). We made a cock-up in the Oasis one with the singer going to a chorus rather than the instrumental break and me (as band leader) not thinking quickly enough about how to recover and communicating to the band. I think on a more familiar instrument (bass or keys) my thought process would have been quicker. We got it back though and finished ok. We also didn’t quite get the rit correct at the end of Wagon Wheel (which you’ll hear if you listen all the way though the video ) but I think it was probably because the drummer hadn’t been able to practice with us - so a proper Jam.
The audience seemed to enjoy it as did myself and the band.
Listening to this video (and others) I note that sometimes my chords seem to have stopped ringing before I get to the next one. E to the barred F#m is kind of understable at this stage of my guitar journey, but I’m a little surprised it happens from say A to E. My current guesses are:
- I lift my fingers too quickly on the beat 4 downstrum and maybe should try to leave it to the 4and offbeat
- I’m not playing the open strings (string 5 and 1 in the case of the A chord) so when the fretted ones stop ringing as I lift, there is no open string to ring out
- I should lift earlier than the 4 beat so it’s just open strings.
- Something else
Any thoughts on my chord changes?
