A Name John Frusciante, Nugget's version

Hey everyone. I am still having problems playing my guitar. But I really wanted to try and put something up. Its a short song called A Name by John Frusciante. I didn’t add the solo and i didnt add the harmony to the vocals. I lost my energy after this second take.

There are mistakes and some timing but its ok. I hope you guys like it. I will work on it some more. Out of the 2 times I did it this was slightly better. :joy: i hope its not too bad. My strumming needs work for sure. Feel free to give me some constructive tips. Just dont tell me to loosen up cause i am still in pain. (:smiling_face_with_sunglasses: thats a joke.)
Today 3 weeks post op spinal chord surgery.

Thank you Ashu. I appreciate the comment a ton.

I am rewatching this morning . It’s not too good and I didnt realize how shaky I looked. Probobly should have waited a bit to try and get something on video.

Hey Jason - I enjoyed listening to that. Well done! 3 weeks post spinal chord surgery I’d be curled up in a ball feeling sorry for myself
You already called out your strumming, and I agree, I think trying to keep a steady strumming rhythm would be the first thing I’d work on.
That said, you’re doing great … hope recovery goes smoothy!

Thanks Paul I really appreciate you watching it. And ypur comments. I am starting the strumming 101 course. So that will help out a lot with my strumming and I am excited about it. I have been a bit obsessed with Frusciante’s solo work for the last couple of months. “Showdows Collide with People” is by far my favorite album, although this song is from the album “Curtains”.

Dude I am paying for all that right now and during the night. My wife is a bit irritated because I kept her up all night whining in pain. :expressionless_face:

It might have been best to use my 3/4 sized guitar. I am not sure why I didnt.

Absolutely agree :grin::innocent:

Bravo Jason, it doesn’t seem like an easy song, many chords…just keep going, you’re not far from being able to accompany your singing with a smoothier strumming… you have a nice singing voice too!

Hey Jason, I’m so glad to see you playing!
It’s brave you even recorded this in a video for us to see!
I hope you’ll get better and better and get your old strength back soon!
I like this song and like Silvia, I like your singing and it’s promising for a future version!

I heard the same thing. :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

Yeah and they are all thumb over for the 6th string root barr chords. I just started playing them like that cause thats how John plays them, so in my head i have to remind myself to do that rather than the regular barr chords. Its a great tune.

Thank you. Normally I sing a bit better from the diaphragm I was a bit shaky in the second verse. One of my rehab excersizes is to use an incentive spirometer, it help promote deep breathing. So what is better supplement than deep breathing for vocals. :joy:

You’re doing so well and you have an amazing attitude! :star_struck:
That combined with the guitar playing and you’ll be making a speedy recovery

Totally agree with this too  :guitar: :sunflower:

Your comments are so inspiring.

Thank You.

TBH I have had so time to think the last couple of weeks and I am really just happy to be alive at this point and that’s at a compounding rate of gratitude :face_holding_back_tears:

I am also very appreciative that you watched my video. Thanks :grinning_face_with_big_eyes: I am glad you enjoyed it.

John Frusciante is an amazing acoustic player. I have been listening to him for years and I missed a number of his full LP of solo work when I was out of the country. I am thrilled to have discovered those acoustic releases in conjuction with my guitar journey.

Well done Jason, your recovery seems to be progressing nicely.
Keep concentrating on achieving a steady strumming pattern. At the moment it’s very staccato and lacks flow.

It really does. I will admit I paid heavy during that night and yesterday but it was worth it.

Thanks for pointing those things out. yes agreed, I completely failed to tap my foot and keep my arm going in time. Wierd how all that just went out the window after a pause in regular practice. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Exactly what Justin describes as what happens when you don’t have the strumming pattern in your muscle memory.

I am taking making use of the strumming 101 now, that will help a lot and I am uber excited to be into these videos.

A little late to the party, here… But man, Jason, it’s so great to see and hear you back performing!

You really did well given all the circumstances and what you went through the past weeks. I thoroughly enjoyed your performance. Best thing anyhow is that you are back at playing. Now keep on keeping on and take it easy.

I haven’t listened to much of John Frusciante, but I’ll check it out

Well played Jason! There are a lot of chord changes in that song, so you’ve picked a real doozy for your rehab therapy. I can’t begin to imagine how hard spinal cord surgery must hit you. Keep going - you’re on the right path!

I liked the raw performance, Jason. Akin to Frusciante’s sometimes raw delivery when it is only him and a guitar. Bare, honest, emotive… You did some self critique in the previous comments, but I think this performance have some qualities you perhaps are missing because you are looking for something else.

Best of luck on your recovery! And thanks for intorducing me to this song, I had not heard it before
