A nice Groove

nice groove i just did

I discovered I can use these shapes to play up and down the top 3 strings and now its a little bit like playing a piano.

They can also be used as shells for example, playing a major triad with the root a whole tone down from whatever is playing in the bass is a minor 11 shell, or playing a major triad with the root being the major 3rd of whatever is playing in the bass is a dominant 7 shell (I think).

Root on the G String (3rd String)

  • Major: G: [R], B: [Same fret], E: [2 frets down]
  • Minor: G: [R], B: [1 fret down], E: [2 frets down]

Root on the B String (2nd String)

  • Major: G: [1 fret down], B: [R], E: [1 fret down]
  • Minor: G: [1 fret down], B: [R], E: [2 frets down]

Root on the E String (1st String)

  • Major: G: [1 fret up], B: [Same fret], E: [R]
  • Minor: G: [Same fret], B: [Same fret], E: [R]

Richard has covered triads in the vintage club a few times. You may wish to have a look at some recordings of past webinars on the topic.

#27 and #28 probably the ones to look at first.

Welcome to the Community, Oliver.

That sounds pretty funky.

It is not a requirement but we do like to get know our members here. So consider posting an intro here: Community Hub > Introduce yourself ... Doesn’t have to be too long: a little personal background, guitar history, and goals a student of Justin.
