"A" slow-jam improv

Usually doing covers, I thought I’d try putting together this improv just for a change of pace. The thing I like about improv is that the only thing predetermined is the key and tempo, everything else is spontaneous; I don’t know how it’s going to start, where it’s going or how it will end. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. This one turned out OK.
Hope you enjoy it.
DRUMS: MT Power Drums loop.
BASS and GTRS: PRS

Feedback always welcomed.

Wow! Great improv, very nice lead guitar sound (reminds me a bit of an ES-335 or a similar semi-hollow) and phrasing. I loved it.

Funny, but that’s also my approach, unless I record a cover.
Anyway, great job, the idea itself plus excellent recording technique. :+1:

Hi, Coda. Gee, I wish it was a ES-335. Just my PRS SE hollow, but I’m happy with it.
I don’t do a lot of improv but it’s fun to once in a while. As you probably know, I usually do covers.
The spontaneity of it is so cool. I can play 10 times to this backing track and it will always be different, not to mention you can do these in any key.
Thanks for stopping by and for the feedback.

That was spontaneously real and fun Dave. You enticed me to pick up my acoustic :guitar: and strum the chords with you, first open chords then barre chords, so thanks for the morning exercise!

Dave

Really enjoyable with a nice call/reply shape to the lead guitar lines.

Fabulous, Dave, you always take my breath away.

Such a great vibe, so mellow. Brilliant call and response between the two guitar ‘players’. I can imagine two of the greats playing that, and having a whale of a time on stage. Tremendous tones.

Fantastic! Loved it, perfect timing, and notes. Keep it up.

That was fabulous Dave! Can I ask?..how long have you been playing the guitar?

Dave,
Just finished listening for the 3rd time…
I am blown away… fantastically mellow & enjoyable jam!!!
Loved it!!!

That was fantastic Dave. Perfect listening for a Sunday morning while sipping coffee. What you did is something I aspire to be able to do some day.

Nice feel and tonality. Really enjoyed it!

@mfeeney0110 Michael, glad you had some fun with this one. I don’t know if you picked up on it, but I was using 9ths for the IV and V. I just like the sounds of those chords in a shuffle like this. Thanks for the feedback.

@beejay56 Thanks, Brian. That call and response is a fun thing to do, although I’ve got to admit that sometimes it doesn’t sound so good when I do it. This one seemed to work.
Glad you enjoyed it.

@DavidP David, Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate the vibe, mellow and tone comments. As I said above, you just never know what’s going to develop when doing something like this. Can you imagine being able to play something like this with someone like BB or Moore or any of the truly great guitarists out there? What a trip that would be. Hope all is well with you.

@jvlynch Hi, Jim. Thanks for that feedback. Glad you liked it. As far as timing and perfect notes, they don’t always come out that way. Yet we journey on and keep trying.

@Silvia80 Thank you, Silvia. I appreciate the feedback…
How long have I been playing the guitar? I guess that really depends on the definition of “playing”. :face_exhaling: I tried learning guitar, on and off (and a lot more off than on) for about 50 years. I was trying to self-teach, bought How to Play Guitar books, chord books, a few live lessons; none of which worked. Would put the guitar in the closet for a year or so and repeat and repeat and repeat. None of it was working. I believe there are others here that could sing that same song.
In mid 2016 I retired, found Justin Guitar online and, after lurking and reading his site, decided I would give it one more try. When I found JG on the Web, I knew some chords and could almost play House of the Rising Sun. I joined the site in February 2017, determined to give it my one last best shot, as I thought Justin had a good methodology.
So I really started learning how to play guitar then and it has developed over the ensuing years since then. All I was hoping for was to learn some really nice chords and how to play them (I love rhythm guitar) and possibly a few riffs, licks. To say I was focused would be an understatement. But really the key was to stick with the program, do meaningful practice every day, even if it was only 15, 20 minutes. It was usually longer. It really started kicking in and paying dividends in the second and third year. And I’ve pretty much always done my own backing tracks, which I think helps the learning process.
I say all of that to say Justin’s method really worked for me, and to hopefully encourage others to stick with the program, set goals and use your time wisely.
I hope that gives you the insight you were looking for.

I loved it Dave nice guitar work man cheers Hec

@CATMAN62 Tod, Glad you liked it, and I appreciate the comments. It is mellow but I think a minor key would make it more so. Maybe next time.

@frito Joe, thanks for that feedback. Yeah, a good sipping coffee, laid back tune. If you can’t do it now, stick with the program and set that goal. You can do it!

@ChasetheDream Robert, thank you for the feedback. I’m glad you enjoyed it. I love your tag name - something we’re all doing.

@DeltaTyne Hi, Hec. Thanks for taking this one in and for your comments.

That was terrific Dave. I loved the way you got the two guitars to weave in and out between each other. Super tones too. Well done.

Terrific piece of music - i enjoyed listening so much - very very well done!!!
The two guitars are interwoven in such a cool way and playing so well with each other!

I’m quoting all of it as I hope anyone else will read. It’s really inspirational Dave, thanks for taking the time to write back and answer my question. I’m in a moment when I see progressive improvement in myself so this gives me hope to do better and better with time.

Good on you to branch out. Sounded good, lots of nice chops in there.
