I would like to create HUB for external course from Paul Davids - Acoustic Adventure.
So far I met few JG Community members who are going through same course like me and it would be great to have one place to share experiences and struggle to the course.
Actual participants: @Carreta@math07@Socio (If you are new or you went through this course, hit me and I will add you to the list)
Please respect this thread to not share whole materials from the course so we dont face something illegal. I think sharing just bar or two wont be bad.
Hi Michal,
The three of you have probably thought about it carefully, so I must not understand something, so I’ll just ask out of curiosity
Feels a bit strange, so I don’t understand it yet , but Paul Davids has his own community, wouldn’t it be better to do this with him or keep everything private via DMs? or is that the intention and this is just a call for it?
Agian ,me just asking and curious… The man was mentioned by Justin a while ago and is seen as a good teacher …
I already have pretty long conversation with @math07 in DMs, but I think it is good idea to have also public place in this community… and this community is much more “alive” than any other I know. I also love “the space” of JG Community and it feels like home to share it here.
If I take in personal aspect… if I dont know about something I am looking for that here if there is topic for that and many times it helps me. This HUB could be great place for people who are thinking about course and want little bit “inside” look, because they are only here.
Paul Davids is my role model and you can definitely see it through my all topics.
In the end… 90% of fingerstyle I know and share is thanks to him.
Oke I see ,and now know that James did not know about this ,
I don’t think this is the place to discuss a course from another competing teacher (even one that Justin also describes as a good, nice guy) here in this community… (I even have strong feelings about it )
But of course I don’t be the judge of that or discuss that further all and I would like to leave this to our Mods @Richard_close2u and @DavidP and @LievenDV
I appreciate the note of you feeling at home here but we still need some housekeeping in that home since it’s a rather active hub on its own already
We like Paul’s stuff as well but creating a sub-community here is a bridge too far.
Since the beginning, we always respected other online teachers and cross linking cool ideas or fun content was always allowed. In many cases J is already good friends with the teacher in question, like Paul is.
Please observe this though: We try to avoid sub-communites as a whole.
It is part of our inclusiveness tactics.
Now and then we get the question: “Can we create a sub forum for … [enter minority group/sub culture * certain demographic here]”
I’m the first to defend my opinion to decline because inclusiveness for me is facilitating all groups and not being explicit about it; as we take it for granted, just like we don’t separate the community in even or odd birthdays or something. Sub-communities often underestimate the implicit singal they send to “outsiders”. More so, Everything we discuss here is about what we all have access to or at least within the JG Universe.
In your specific case; Paul’s Community is probably the better place to do it. Perhaps it even means dropping HIM a message and asking what the best approach would be IF HE would support the sub-community notion.
Another option would be setting up for yourself somewhere.
Lieven describes really well the reasons why hosting a sub-community isn’t cool and one for another online teacher even less so.
It’s great to know that there are several JG folk also connecting in a different place and following one another’s learning path, and are able to share that through the friendship made here in JG land. But those conversations do need to be over there, not over here.
@LievenDV@LievenDV Thank you for input and I understand. I did not think about facts like this at first. If so I agree with deleting this post. I will keep DM conversation with other on JG community.
Btw, I hope I did not make anyone angry by this topic. I am huge fan and member of this community and having clash here with anyone is not my goal.
Angry? no
I wish every topic in any international theatre could have such a process.
A free question in a safe environment, met with pro and con arguments, a concise and clear decision and a timely wrap up. Isn’t that a dream?
No worries. In my book, all things are open for discussion, as long as we can more or less follow the process above ^^
From my perspective, not at all. I agreed fully with the @LievenDV initial response. You floated an idea to see if it had air, when it was pointed out nicely that it had challenges, you took it well. Keep contributing and keep smiling
