Acoustic guitar sound hole pick up conversion

Hi everyone.

I have a Fender CC60 concert sized acoustic guitar that I have been thinking of adding a sound hole pick up to.

I expected these conversion kits to be expensive but was surprised to find that they are quite reasonably priced, certainly a lot cheaper than buying an electro acoustic guitar.

Does anyone have any experience fitting / using these pick upโ€™s? I would like to get some feedback before I take the plunge,

Cheers.

Not sound hole pick ups but have experience with K&K internal pick ups. They are probably the closest youโ€™re going to get to an acoustic sound plugged in and not all that expensive

Like all pick ups you get what you pay for so donโ€™t expect a $12 pick up to give you a good acoustic sound. That being said if you just want to plug in and donโ€™t really care about a good acoustic sound then I think any sound hole pick up will probably be just fine.

I remember when I worked at a music store, we had a Dean Markley soundhole pickup that sounded very good. Besides, it also looked very nice as the housing was wooden (not of paramount importance perhaps, but a nice addition). The price was around 60$ IIRC.

Hi Malcolm

I have just changed from a Fishman PZ bridge pick up to a LR Baggs PZ bridge PU and Microphone on my acoustic.

It was not a hard job as the hole in the bottom of the guitar where the Strap button is was already there, all I had to do was carefully remove the old one and first the LR Baggs. The hole needed for these is 1/2โ€™, so you need to remove the button drill a pilot hole and then carefully REAM out to 1/2". Before drilling protect the outside of the guitar with several layers of masking tape.

The PZ pickup comes from underneath at the top of the bridge through a drill hole, about 1/8โ€™โ€™ large enough for the PZ pickup. you have to measure the thickness of the PZ pickup, and then mark that on the side of the white bridge and sand that off on the a flat surface, 100 grade wet and dry will work. you then fit the rest.
