Hi I am Adriaan from Cape Town, South Africa. I am trying this log idea. It should be fun. The community seems quite active. Thanks for checking out my log if you end up here at some point.

Did some improvisation to warm up the fingers. Acoustic Blues 6 - slow minor 8 bar blues in E. Minor pentatonic scale (Pro Band Backing Tracks App). Getting back into it, my fingers are finding the notes up and down the neck, starting to feel the rhythm and starting to get some nice sounds.
Tried the strumming machine on JG. Its is a great tool.
Focussed on ‘Three little birds’ and trying to get the strumming patter down. I can get it at 75% speed comfortably. At 100% 146 I struggled to get the palm mute consistent. Fingers hurt cant wait for the calluses to return.
Also played House of the rising sun my finger picking is a bit rusty but it is getting there.

Some more strumming to get three little birds strumming down. feeling more comfortable with the reggae strumming pattern. Stuck to 75% time.
Some improvisation moving my pentatonic shapes around the neck a bit to make sure I cover the neck.
Getting my campfire songs I used to know by heart back in my brain and hands without my music books. New strumming pattern for House of the rising sun.
Romanza, just slowly starting to get into it again. Better today. Fingers sore.

Three little birds strumming pattern at 100% speed with the youtube whoop! Little messy here and there not a machine yet. But sounding like music.
Struggling with the funk improvisation then swopped to - All the sad songs improvisation- I love this too much… ![]()
Romanza just one go.
Hey Adriaan! Welcome to the community! How’s it going getting your songs back from memory? I never played when I was younger (although I guess i’m still young), but I hope to keep at it from here on out. I’ve been working a lot of improvisation myself but wouldn’t even know where to start with funk improvisation just yet.
Hey Ryan. Thanks for checking in to my log. Getting stuff from memory has been a little harder than before. I do not have my books with me so the chords and the music I am using to supplement my recall is different to the music I had. I understand from memory stuff I read a lot of memory with music is visual - we recall the actual music page when we play. So switching to different look pages affect the recall. But I am getting there and it is fun. About the funk improvisation - I have this app now a little old already they have not really kept updating it but it works and it is great (Pro Band Backing Tracks - Mark Fitchett) - it has a track - Acoustic Blues a Funky Shuffle - the suggested scales - minor pentatonic, major pentatonic, blues or mixolydian scale - I just use the minor pentatonic E - but the rhythm is really hard to try make any soloing sound like anything.
