After the Goldrush | That Leaving Feeling (covers) Brian and Richard

A double bill!

First Brian @brianlarsen and I present our version of After the Goldrush by Neil Young. We have been meeting up several times a month for nearly 12 months now, having met up through this forum and being conveniently situated within 15 minutes of each other. It’s been a great way of furthering both guitar playing and singing, even if I don’t always get the lyrics or chords right!

Next my version of That Leaving Feeling by Stuart Staples, a song which Brian discovered a few weeks ago. It didn’t initially grab me but having listened to it a few times, then learning the song I haven’t managed to get it out of my head! It’s such a poignant song, just listen to the lyrics.

Marvelous both.

I saw the duo earlier on the tube … just catching the solo slot now.
Bravo.

Both were excellent.

Hey @brianlarsen , were you thinking your guitar may go out of tune mid-song? :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Nice pair of videos.

You sure look like your having a lot of fun with your duet. I’m so envious. Your scenario of how close by you two are to ea. other and that ya get together often is my dream. Consider yourselves very fortunate to have ea. other to jam with.
Keep on rockin guys. Your music is good!
Thanks for sharing!

Great, really enjoyed both, must be lovely to have a nearby guitar buddy. I hope you’re thinking of putting a little set of songs together and performing at an open mic. :sign_of_the_horns::guitar:

Your voices really go great together ,all was super om to see and to listening :grinning_face_with_big_eyes: in the 2nd video Richard your guitar playing is wonderful to listen to with that warm voice and an absolute gem…
the first one still needs to be done with a solo in the middle section and then I will see you on stage again soon :man_bowing:

Most enjoyable gents! You both have crossed the bridge from guitar student to guitar performer.

Thanks for taking a look and that you enjoyed our offerings! As mentioned above bouncing ideas and songs around, and playing guitar with someone likeminded really helps with learning. Under @brianlarsen mentorship I have developed from only playing or singing on my own 12 months ago to being much more confident playing in front of people, and have done a few open mics locally and here on JG.

There’s an idea and a challenge Roger @roger_holland to introduce a solo :grinning_face:. Perhaps something for our next lesson @Richard_close2u !

Cheers for posting, Richard :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:
A year already ?!? :open_mouth:
Goodness, time flies !

It’s true what everyone says- that you learn a lot playing with others. I just wish it would improve my guitar ‘technique’ :laughing:
What I get most out of it though is the formation or deepening of relationships. I made another new friend through playing guitar and that’s priceless. Thanks again, Justin :heart_hands:
Richard and I are fairly well matched in where we are on our learning path. Richard is way ahead of me in the guitar picking dept. triads etc., but I’ve probably learned more songs (thanks, Sensei :wink:) and might be more confident (bossy/loud?) on the performance side :rofl:

@Richard_close2u cheers, mate :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:
Do me a favour and give him some depressing feedback at the next lesson. His head is starting to swell a bit, and could do with taking down a peg or two…)

@ToshS
If you’re referring to the tuner, that’s just where it lives (more as a reminder that one should tune, rather than it ever being used :laughing:) There’s usually a capo stuck on beside it, which I employ a lot more these days.

You’re right, and I do :folded_hands:
Bear in mind though, if you want to meet up with like-minded spirits, you need your antennae to constantly be on ‘receive-mode’, looking out for opportunities and grabbing them when they arise (occasionally coaxing them out when they’re hesitant :wink:).
It’s not just by chance that I’ve had the pleasure of meeting up with half a dozen community members in real life, not to mention all the other local musicians in the area I live. Believe me, it’s not because of my desirable ‘axe-wielding skills’ :rofl:
Thanks for the listen and positive comments.

@Will_E_Vander Ta, Will :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

We’ve been keeping an eye out for a Friday we’re both around for our local open mic (as indeed I have with Chris), but Richard has a ‘richer social life’ than this sad boy. Our day will come (You only get two songs per night though)
Thanks for dropping by :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

@roger_holland I shall repeat myself (and DM you later) :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:
Thank you for the roses!
I don’t ‘do’ solos, and am not partial to those mouth harp wailings either :roll_eyes:
However, I am happy to strum along to anyone wishing to show off…

@mfeeney0110 Thanks, Michael :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:
Tbh, I’ll settle for ‘performer’.
Guitar, uke or even clothes are just accessories to this emperor :rofl:

@Willsie
Et tu, Willsie, replacibilis es :rofl:

The solo in this song is a French Horn Brian … and I may task myself with teaching an adapted version to your compadre just for the devilment now!! :slight_smile:

No doubt, Brian, you have always been a performer. I’m certain there are a few scolding notes to that effect in your kindergarten and grade school records. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Really enjoyed the double bill, thank you Richard @Richtrfc and Brian @brianlarsen.

Good stuff guys. You’ll be giving Mal and Lara a run for their money on the harmony front. :grinning_face_with_big_eyes: The mix of strumming and fingerstyle worked well too.
Great that you live so close to each other and can play regularly.
Richard. Terrific vocal and fingerstyle playing in your solo performance. If you want lesser/unknown songs to perform then Brian’s the one to mentor you. :grin:
Well done

That’s great stuff, Richard and Brian! :smiley:

First: It’s so cool the two of you live close to each other, so you can have regular play sessions. That’s invaluable, also from the building friendships perspective. :slight_smile:

I enjoyed both performances (even though I didn’t know either of the songs :grimacing:). Your harmonies sound really nice, Brian @brianlarsen the higher register suits your singing voice very well, too. Richard, your picking sounds really sweet to my ears and the solo performance was most enjoyable and kind of smooth to listen to. :slight_smile: Your rendition made me curious about the song, need to check that one.

Keep’em coming! :slight_smile:

@sairfingers @JohnnyW @Lisa_S
Thanks for listening to us and the feedback, and glad you enjoyed the songs. This is the rather surreal video for the original Leaving Feeling.

Wow guys,
Lots to digest here. Nice job, I like both offerings, but to me the duet NY cover stood out. You two pulled off a great live performance I could only dream of making. Kudos there! The blend, as said prior on the vocals is very nice. To me the whole effort was well worth the investment you two put in.

Gotta run - But great job and take good care,
LBro

I enjoy seeing how this community is slowly becoming a real-world community as well. Great performance guys!

Gordon said it best :smiley:

As for the solo performance, Richard you’re right. This song really stays in the head! Very emotional performance.

Thanks fo sharing guys!

That’s what it’s all about!
