Am I Losing You by Coco Montoya (instrumental cover)

The original is sung by Coco Montoya, but I decided to adopt an instrumental arrangement roughly based on the rendition by Jan Akkerman, a great but criminally underrated Dutch guitarist. (There’s also a completely different country-style song of the same title by Jim Reeves).
I used my new Valeton GP-5 as a multi-purpose tool for this recording: an amp/cab modeller, a multieffect, a drum machine and also an interface.
Thank you in advance for listening; I hope you’ll like it.

Hi Tomasz, that’s a lovely track, don’t know the original but your playing and arrangement sounded perfect to me. Thank you for posting.

Tomasz

Well played and a worthy compliment to Jan. (One of the first live albums I bought was Focus at The Rainbow.) Very enjoyable,

Brian

Don’t know the artist or song, Tomasz. Yours sounds so good I am tempted to hit YT and look for the original.

Perhaps I am hearing some hints of Dire Straits/Knopfler influence? And I know (I think so?) you enjoy MK

The original is fabu;lous and your intrepretation did it justice, Tomasz!

@JohnnyW @beejay56 @DavidP Thanks so much, Gents, for listening and the kind words; the best reward I could ever get for my efforts…

David - you’ve surprised me a lot; I thought that if someone finds the original on YT, they may begin to look down on my version…

I hear Morricone vibe. Tomasz, it is brilliant. Such a melodic piece.

@Willsie @Boris1565 Thanks so much! I’m really happy you liked it, I strove for producing a good recording at the stage of both playing and post-processing, so it took me quite some time to obtain a satisfactory (for me) result, so any expression of appreciation is very encouraging, proving that what I do makes sense.

Oh no, never, Tomasz. You brought your style and vibes to the song, respecting the original but not replicating it. I think that is as challenging and meritorious as being able to play the original note for note.

Like several of the others, I don’t know the original but your version is beautiful and so melodic. Thank you for posting it. I’m also going to check out the original. Yours is fantastic. I’ve listened to it a couple of times. Like someone else mentioned I also thought a heard a bit of M Knopfler in there.

BTW, after our exchange about the Valeton Gp5, I bought it. Haven’t used it much yet but it’s truly amazing what sounds you can get out of that tiny little box and so convenient that it can be plugged straight into the computer, and with drums or a backing track. I’m mostly using it through my amp at the moment for drums and simple effects like reverb and delay but it’s already replaced my Mooer looper that I was using as a drum machine and which has a really annoying buzz. I’m going to try recording with it soon. It also has a decent bypass unlike my Zoom multi effects.

Thanks for posting your recording.

All the best, Ian

Thanks a million for your post, Ian. Yes the tiny GP-5 can do a lot. As you’ve probably noticed, I use chiefly a clean guitar sound. In the GP-5, my favourite modelled amps are the Fender Twin Reverb (very nicely rendered in practically all modellers), and two of the NAMs loaded in the N-S effect chain position, namely the Matchless DC-30 and Laney LH20.

You can easily find the original on YT; just make sure you listen to the instrumental version by Jan Akkerman, not the song performed by Coco Montoya (even though that’s the actual original).
Thanks again, Ian.
With best regards, Tomasz
