AML (original song)

Here’s a song I wrote some time ago. I hope you all enjoy. The lyrics are an excuse to play the guitar part, which I enjoyed writing and playing.

Here’s a song I wrote some time ago. I wrote it for a full band and a better singer, but I think this is still ok on its own. It’s just me with an acoustic and an old keyboard keeping time. I hope you enjoy.

That was really cool Nathan and is more than good on its own. Also great vocals so keep it for yourself as there is no need to find a better singer as you already have one :sunglasses:

Great debut, Mike :sunglasses:
Fab rhythm with great vocals on top.
Took me a minute to figure out what AML stood for (was thinking Acute Myeloid Leukaemia )
Bravo & encore!

this is CATCHY!
A Dire Straits vibe, a brighter Chris Rea vocal, a memorable chorus/main line
Tasty guitar playing, a little insturmental bridge that brushes just a tiny bit againt the basic flow of the song… what’s not to like here?

You have all you need right there man, a unique, personal recognisable voice and timbre that will draw your attention on the radio. You sing it!

This song was a pleasant surprise, they way you were downplaying it while it’s a cool thing in the making…

If i may add positive feedback in the form of constructive ciriticism;
Although the structure and length of the song seems good as it is, I might have missed that tiny bit of extra flavour and contrast in it’s storytelling. This can be achieved by a bit more of a dramatic change in tone of voice during a bridge, switching to a bit different strumming or even fingerpicking and seying a line parlando, make the bridge chords brush up against the grain a little more than they do now… you know; that part that makes it extra memorable, where people subconciosly wait for so they can sing/say it along etc.

Great song, great vibe, great voice.
the essence of a song is often a purified chorus and yours is a gem

This is great Mike! Catchy rhythm, nice strumming/picking combination, and I think the vocals are great. They give it a nice gritty feel.

I cant really add anything more to the comments already made Nathan, it’s a great song that sounds very good on acoustic guitar, especially the way you perform it. Well done.

Hey, thanks for taling a listen everyone!

I appreciate the suggestions for improvement!

Woooaahhh Duuuude!!! Excellent song that grabs you from the off, well played and well sung!

That was a really great song Nathan! Arrangement, vocals, accompaniment, all top quality. Congratulations on a super production.

Very cool song! My first neighbour thinks the same, he just asked me over the fence what was the song. I think some el. guitar power chord fills would work greatly between singing lines just to create some variation. You have great voice!

Super song Nathan. @brianlarsen said everything I was going to say  All I would add is take a moment to introduce yourself to the community and tells us about your guitar journey with JG and update the title of your post so Brian knows what AML stands for straight away

Thanks again everyone for taking the time to listen to my song, and for your feedback. I’m working on a new tune which will be the 3rd or 4th I’ve brought to completion.

It’s in a sort of awkward adolescence wherein I have the idea for the chorus and shords for the verses, but the lyrics and melody are still brewing.

It’s about that time that i often just give up, but I think I’ll keep going on this one.

Ha! I was about to ask what I should do to try to …salvage…it, then I noticed that I’d misread that post.

That sounds great, Nathan, it is a great guitar part. Enjoyed your vocal as well. The song has a familiar feel to it but can’t put my finger on what it reminds me of.

The way to post is to create a new topic in the appropriate category or sub-category. I’ve taken care of that.

Thank you so much…sorry to create the extra work for you! You’re far too kind!

That was excellent Nathan. The guitar part sounded a bit like Dire Straits to me and your vocals were really good and a perfect fit for the song. Keep writing and sharing :sunglasses:

Hi Nathan,
I believe this is a reposting of a song you shared a couple of months ago…
My impression of it hasn’t changed, so I’ll copy and paste what I wrote back then:

"Great debut, Mike :sunglasses:
Fab rhythm with great vocals on top.
Took me a minute to figure out what AML stood for (was thinking Acute Myeloid Leukaemia )
Bravo & encore!"

I recall it too, and it sounds identical to me
Still a good song but please add to the original thread if you are buildigng upon the same song
