Another "smart" guitar? But this looks cool

Recently I saw an article about Yamaha releasing their updated TransAcoustic guitar and didn’t give it much thought. Ok, another acoustic with some effects.
But then Paul released this video and I have to say, it looks cool. Of course, mostly because it’s Paul playing it and not me, but it shows how it sounds and what can be done with it.
And it sounds really good, the looper and the effects do sound excellent, which makes it stand out from counterparts like Lava. And it looks like an acoustic guitar because it is just a quality Yamaha guitar.
Though the price is not very affordable, so I’ll stick with my simple, lacking any features, Cort and better practice more, to get even one step closer to Paul’s playing.
And what do you think about it?

I think I have enough on my hands mastering the straight forward acoustic. . .much less one with effects and lots of bells and whistles. . .but I am not exactly on the cutting edge of guitar playing technology so. . .although it won’t be joining my guitar collection, it sounds nice on the video. . .

I watched this video at the weekend, pretty impressed. Seems a good use of technology without compromising what an acoustic guitar should be. I’m in favour of this sort of innovation. There’ll always be simple acoustic guitars for the people who want them so it’s interesting to see what can be done.

Yamaha do need a slap on the wrist for a proprietary cable though… come on folks it’s 2024, isn’t there enough e-waste in the world?

Looks pretty good to me Artem.
Sounds pretty good to me too.

I had no idea there was such a guitar on the market. Tech is just going wild.
And to think, I thought I was cool with a acoustic/electric. Guess not.

fwiw. Likely won’t just go out and get one though. Kinda pricey for me.

Not that I’m anywhere good enough to make use of the features on this guitar, but I’m not really seeing it for myself. I could see these features as great for busking. You could do a lot on a street corner with nothing but this guitar. But on stage or in a studio? I feel like there are other ways to get the same place while having more flexibility with the instrument you’re using.

Okay, if you just want to jam on the couch or the porch and play with some of these things, okay…sorta maybe. But when I’m in the mood to play in those settings with my acoustic, I’m looking for a much more basic experience.

I don’t necessarily see this as a mass-appeal guitar. I see it as something that will satisfy a person with some very specific wants. Some might buy it as just another guitar to collect because they have a bunch and this one is just different enough from everything else they have.

I feel that way about both of my guitars and they’re the most basic guitars out there. :smiling_face_with_tear:

Right?

I got my first electric this year and whoa…the options. But even my most basic acoustic is something I’m still wrapping my head around.

I think Yamaha have done a good job with this, its easy and normal to have effects in your chain with electric but its one thing you miss just jamming on an acoustic.

And this looks like its done well. Not for everyone but its still good instrument , if spendy…

The thing about the price is that all things tech start this way but who’s to say that in 3-5 years that similar tech might not trickle down into their more easily affordable electro-acoustic guitars and then it gets really interesting.

For now it is probably aimed at a particular style of acoustic player but if it was on a guitar of half the price then I think a lot more of us might seeing what we could accomplish with one

Interesting tech

Don’t really use loopers but a built in reverb (ans how the actuator thing works) is right up my alley. Playing a backing track over BT is a nice feature too; also for live percussion supports.

This could also be handy to play ampless in an acoustic band setting.

Imagine a lavalier mic to sing in, amplified by your guitar as well.

It probably won’t match my Maton but as a concept, I love it.

Play in the shower or “cloakroom”

Then it’s better to get a carbon fiber guitar, I wouldn’t play a wooden instrument in a shower.

Who has a cloakroom!?!

All ‘polite’ householde in England :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

My previous house didn’t have a hallway.
My current one has and turns out, it has a GREAT reverb.
I sometimes sing and play unamplified there because it actually makes me feel better about my singing

We’re drifting off topic here though

Well, I’m not buying one, it will hang on the wall like the others, the only difference is I will be able to listen to the local radio through its Bluetooth, lol

That can be a cool party trick, albeit a bit expensive.

Is that the same thing as a closet?
