Why not?
Quick back to garden and guitar!!!
I couldnt agree more !
We bought a new set of knives , I didnt want them to get damaged by the dishwater so I washed them by hands …
they are so sharp that it sliced the tip of my thumb like butter !
I had to play with a band aid for 2 days and it was very annoying
stay away from sharp pointy knives !
I never knew you played with Band aid Deborah, you kept that quiet hehe cheers Hec
After lots of trial and error i only let the nails grow about 1 or 2 mm beyond my fingertip.
I catch the string first with flesh part and the string is caught by the nail on follow through.
This has the advantage in the rare event that I loose a nail the flesh is still calloused.
Nails are also much less likely to brake. In the past my nail usually broke by being ripped of when I try to hold something which slips through my fingers. That doesnt happen anymore.
I also trim them almost daily to keep them at this length. I also make sure the edges are very smooth so that it doesnt catch on anything. I also keep the weeds at bay though usually with soft leather gloves.
There is a very informative discusion about nails on this website (This is also where I got the photo as he has his nails the same length as mine.
I have taken courses from both Tommy Emanuel and Joe Robinson, and both of them use mainly the fingertips and not nails, with or without a thumb pick depending on the way they want the bass note to sound. I do a lot of gardening and find that using the fingertips works very well for me and sounds good on my acoustic. Once you get used to it you will find it easy and good volume.
I garden some. but I work with my hands otherwise a LOT and nails are a liability. so the fingerpicking I’ve done has been with my fleshy fingertips. maybe if I’m right at that threshold of needing to trim my nails, I’ll be able to use them fingerpicking, but I don’t ever rely on that.
Thanks–I agree, fingernails are a liability–split fingernails are an un-fun experience
If I ever do need nails for a song, I’ll buy and learn to use plastic/steel fingertips
I garden, fish, brew beer, bake bread, and do guitary stuff. You do not want to swab down my strings.
