Here’s my localised take on the classic Country Roads song…
Almost heaven, West Australia
Bluestone mining, and the Swan River
Life is wild there, rolling with the breeze
Older than the red cliffs, standing by the sea
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Australia, ocean mama
Take me home, country roads
What a nice breakfast treat
Never been to WA, so I decided to stay local
This is harder than you’d think to program on the Trio+. There’s an extra half bar in the middle of the verse that makes it impossible to match the rhythm to the chorus
I had to resort to ‘manual footswitching’ (5 times!)
Lyrics
I’m in heaven, Western Wirral
Wedged between the Mersey and the Dee,
Liverpool skyline, Snowdon’s summit
Golden sunsets in the Irish sea
Mersey boat, take me home
to the place I belong
Western Wirral, Mersey Mamma
Take me home, Mersey boat
Almost heaven, Northwest England
Home is where my heart is
Rolling hills and farmland
Old and rustic, with views down to the sea
Misty trees and sunshine
Roll before my eyes
Country Roads, take me home
To the place I belong
Northwest England
Green fields and hedgerows
Take me home Country Roads
No such thing as ‘upstaging’ in the community
We’re all learning on our own paths. It’s by doing things like this, you learn something new. I certainly did… and had some fun on the way. I doubt I would have joined in if you hadn’t picked up the baton. And look, David has too
I had to play a lot with the syllables in the alternative lyrics to get mine working or drag a syllable for a bit longer than you would just speaking it… aaaand the swan river
