IT S TIME TO GATHER AROUND THE FIRE !

My song is : On the beach by Chris Rea

It was very hard to record this video because of the heatwave we have in France
My hands were full of sweat and they were sticking too much on the neck
I really wonder how professionals can play under the heat of many spotlights :open_mouth:

It could have been better but it’s the best I could with 3 months of practice and what really matters here is to participate !

I learned the song with my guitar teacher and used the original song from 86 as a backing track
In the original song from 86 , there was no lead guitar
The lead guitar appeared in 1988 when Rea re-recorded ā€œOn the Beachā€ for his album New Light Through Old Windows

So I kind of created my own thing

The backing track is not loud enough but I honestly couldnt re record it in the heat
Its better than nothing , at first I thought I’d never be able to post a video

Who’s next ?

Thanks for the great community jam event! You kicked things off with a wonderful song and played it beautifully!

Okay, that gives me courage, so here is my summer wine.

Wishing all JG guitar friends a wonderful summer

Great idea for a thread, and well done with your song. You’ve really got that palm muting down pat.

I can relate to the heat issues, we’ve been broiling in Barcelona as well, and it has definitely made me cut back on my playing time.

I hadn’t thought of posting this one, but it fits right in with the theme, so here goes… This one is an original - my ode to the beautiful summer days (and nights) in Seattle (my home town).

That’s great Deborah. That’s one of my favourite Chris Rea songs and one of my favourite artists from North east England (my birthplace). I guess that wasn’t easy to learn. Well done.

I hope you are surviving the heat. In Lausanne, we have a cooler day today and then temps are set to go back up to 34C until the end of the next week. My office is now 38C+ in the morning when I get to work - no AC.

Great thread Deborah and I look forward to the next posts. Just hoping my wrist injury is going to improve so that I can post mine.

p.s. I couldn’t get your video to play in the page. I had to go to YouTube to see/listen. Don’t know why. The two others currently in this thread worked fine.

Good performance. It’s one of my favourite summer songs.
BTW - I tried to learn to play the harmonica, and I found it EXTREMELY difficult…

Dzięki ci Jacku,
thanks for the kind words. So I’m trying to learn harp too, and I find the harp is, as they say, easy to learn but extremely hard to master.

This one has been sitting on the shelf for some time; actually when the temps were in the low teens F. Now it’s 100+ in my part of the woods. I see too where the UK is experiencing some unheard of temps . Try to stay cool!!
I originally made the backing track just to practice improvising to. Last night I saw @GrumpyMac had a post in the HUB about summertime songs but couldn’t find a thread here, so thought I’d go ahead and post this to maybe get it started.

Wonderful version of a Classic tune, Dave!
Your touch is light & your tone is spot-on! I also liked the mix… balanced very well between the backing track, guitar & vocals!!! I can imagine hearing that on my favorite Jazz station on the radio - between Brubeck’s ā€œTake Fiveā€ & JoĆ£o Gilberto along with Astrid Gilberto & Stan Getz playing ā€œThe Girl from Impanemaā€! :musical_notes:

Thanks for sharing ā€œSummertimeā€, I’m listening again as I type this!!! Lovely song!!!

A wonderful cover version, beautifully played and sung. @oldhead49

That was great. Thanks for posting. You make both singing and guitar playing look effortless (which as we all know, it isn’t). @oldhead49

I would like to be able to sing, but the sounds I make are absolutely unsuitable for publication… @oldhead49
