Barrie Cadogan Interview - Pick vs. Thumb Change

Dear all,

I am watching Paul Davids latest interview with Barrie Cadogan.

I did not know this guy… but he is awesome and I am definitely gonna learn more about him!
If I dont talk about how impress his playing is… he is using some kind of hybrid picking.

The thing that I noticed and I think it is on some magician skill level… how the hell is he putting the pick between his thumb and point finger, then picking with thumb and then in thunder speed pick up somehow pick and picking again?

Watch his left hand (from our POV), he has blue pick, so it is pretty noticeable. I have not seen this before.
He does it after 25 seconds of my shared time point, I just wanted to give you space for feeling groove and get use to watch his hand move.

Edit: The part I shared here… this music is just stucked in my mind and I am listening to it in my head. It made my day and I am really happy from it. Really magic how it works. Making my day shine like I won lottery.

I’ve seen so many guitar videos over the years I’m sure I’ve seen it before, although I can’t recall who else does it. It’s the sort of thing that would have to take years of playing before it would become comfortable.

Now that I think of it, might of been Nathaniel Murphy.

@chris_m I am gonna check that Nathaniel. I agree it took him years to be so comfortable with that… but it looks like it has 0 effort for him. He just pulls it back with thumb and its in the place he need. I had to watch it in slowmo.

Okay, I found better video of Barrie how he do it and I think something similar Justin is teaching, or am I wrong? I think I saw it somewhere around, but because I am not long time into grades and modules I am not sure.

Its great to play it in 0.5 speed:

@chris_m Such a great way to be able to change from really defining and sharp tone to round and warmer. Thanks for finding this. I am still digging about Barrie, he is so cool.

Justin just did a live stream with Chris Buck, he stashes his pick when playing a lot and explains how he does it in the interview.
The interview is an hour long

Ah cool. I started to watch it but I could quickly tell it was going to be too advanced for me so I gave it a miss. I can strum a few chords but not much more.

@stitch What a great time Justin shares something like this!
I am about to jump to yesterday guitar TAB reading club and then I will watch this one, thanks for share!

@chris_m I did not watch the video yet, but I think this is something you cant learn by one week… it comes by years of doing it so you can hit level of 0 effort like Barrie or Justin. So maybe if you cant do it now, sometimes just try to… do it. When you are on some boring Teams meeting or something like that.
