Billy Strings

Billy Strings is touring Europe, the UK this fall, looks like tickets might still be available.

Stunning guitar skills, he’s a must see:

Never heard of him. What type of music does he play?

A sort of punk bluegrass. Agree with @jsgreen: he’s awesome.

Here’s his YouTube channel, lots of concert footage:

He grew up playing bluegrass, joined a metal band and then returned to his bluegrass roots. He’s got a great combination of musical skills and knows how to bring high energy / entertainment. Also huge repertoire, I’ve heard he rarely repeats a set from show to show.

When he plays with other artists (Tommy Emmanuel, Molly Tuttle…) it’s fun to watch how entertained he is by their playing - he watches their hands and gets this huge smile, lots of joy there.

Got to see him last year in Manchester.
He’s incredible, and the rest of the band too, just brilliant players.
They played 2 sets and even a cover of Rocky Raccoon by the Beatles, one of my most memorable experiences seeing live music.
And he’s cool too, I even got to take a picture with him after the show and was super nice.

This is from 4 years ago, was shot at a party, and it just blew my mind the first time I saw it. It turned me into a bluegrass fan.

In my wildest dreams, I can’t imagine being able to play like that.

He tones it down a bit on this prewar Martin.

He’s at the top of my bucket list of performers to see.

There is a massive archive of live bluegrass recordings at with a bunch of his concerts available.

Molly Tuttle is fantastic too - she and Billy are friends and perform together occasionally.
