Black Stone Cherry - Cheaper To Drink Alone (cover)

Hello everyone!
To my great regret, I don’t have the opportunity to watch YouTube right now. Even VPN doesn’t help :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:. And you guys have posted so many new things. But I hope that one day I will be able to overcome the blocking.
In the meantime, let me post here my cover of Black Stone Cherry (thanks again to @TheMadman_tobyjenner for the opportunity to know these cool guys), hope you like it.
Although it’s not really a Christmas song :wink:
I attached the lyrics to SoundCloud
Rhythm guitar: Fender Tele-, solo guitar: Ibanez, bass - Fender JazzBass
Keep on rocking,
Leo

We have had plenty of Christmas songs, so a bit of good old rock from BSC won’t go amiss.

Sounds great, Leo, as always. Hope the world settles, returns soon to a more peaceful normal and you regain ability to view on YouTube.

Rockin’ good stuff as always Leo. Terrific playing, vocal and production. An all round super package.

On the subject of the song title, if anyone knows someone who may be “drinking alone” this Christmas please pop in to see them and share some festive time with them. Tea, coffee (or stronger :wink:) a mince pie and a chat.

Every cloud has its silver lining, Leo…
You have been spared watching some ‘strange’ videos on my account :roll_eyes: :rofl:
I’m glad you miss us though and are still able to provide us with ‘immaculate conceptions’ of your own :smiley:
That’s a superb rockin’ out version of a song I don’t know.
Be careful out there, my friend and have a Happy Christmas and fab New Year :smiley:

Enjoyed that, thanks for sharing, Leonid; a really good cover production. :clap: :clap:
Wishing you all the best for 2025 … :+1:

Oh yeah :metal:

Thats was awesome. What type of overdrive are you using? Some good crunch on that.

Thanks for sharing :+1:t2:

I loved that! It put a huge smile on my face. Superbly done.

@Elixir1253, @jacobbonde,

@Ontime
thank you!
I use the Tonport Line 6 UX1.
It has about a hundred preset amp settings and cabinets: clear sound, crunch, heavy, bass, etc. You can also adjust your own sound.
Here is my choice:
rhythm: heavy —> sandman,
solo: heavy —> salty dog.
Keep on rocking,
Leo

Hi Leo,
At least Vlad has not shut down SoundCloud and Justin Guitar on you, YET. I told my Russian wife years ago that at some point Putin will close down the country and put an iron curtain around it. So it does not surprise me at what has transpired… I fear it will get worse in the future, before it gets better. Keep hanging in there mate!

Ah, the Line 6 UX1 with Pod Farm. I have Pod Farm 2.x and for something so old it still has some great tones. I am wondering if the UX1 adds any tonal qualities to the guitar tones? To me the UX1 looks like an AI and then it at some point goes through Pod Farm to pick up the tone shaping. Is this correct?

Now - On your offering, it is a top notch, rocking production. Thanks for sharing it! I could list all that is good, but it is easier to say I liked it all. Nice effort on this one! I will offer my 2 cents though on a possible change. In many places the lyrics repeat one after the other. I might be tempted to sing the 1st phrase solo with the lead singer. Then on the following “copies” of the repeat, have backing vocals do those. Just personal preference and an idea mind you. But I think it would be worth a go. I really liked your guitar tones too and they stood out to me. Makes me want to dust off Pod Farm and play with it once again.

I don’t think you guys are strong on Christmas, so wish Vlad a happy new year for me… JK :grinning:

Be well my friend and may 2025 treat well in spirt and health!
LB

Cool version,

Good job on the production, combining these tracks and bringing a song with a pounding energy that surely sticks in my memory. Making a memorable production is essential to leaving an impression!

You’ve got a great timbre for this kind of songs and you surely sound comfortable in it.
The guitars sound on the edge of “overproduced” but I like how well the chopped up staccato style riffing works here. You find a sweet balance in melodic singing with a dash of parlando storytelling.

The timing of the chorus works better but I’ve got the feeling the verse vocal isn’t always exactly timed how I would let it land. I don’t know the original though.

I’d love to hear more from you, perhaps with a bit raunchier and slurring guitar now and then, You sound like the guy who likes to find the dirties edges of blues and feel right at home :smiley:

@LBro
Thanks LB for the great response.
Yes, UX1 is a great thing and allows you not only to select the desired guitar sound, but also to apply your personal settings :+1:
But I don’t consider Line 6 to be artificial intelligence, but treat it as if I have 100 different amplifiers in my room, about 10 of them are my favorites, and I choose what I need today.
As for your suggestion to add backing vocals to the choruses, you’re right, it could improve my cover. And it’s strange that I didn’t do it myself, because I usually like to have fun with backing vocals. I’ll try not to forget about it next time :grinning:
Leo

@LievenDV ,
Thank you for taking the time for such a detailed response, I appreciate it.
Merry Christmas!
