BLIM Graduation present for myself - Epiphone Firebird

Decided to award myself with a graduation present after having completed BLIM :-). So I got this beauty, which I will use to go through the whole BLIM curriculum once more - there is just SO much content in BLIM, that it can keep me covered for a loooooong time.

Nice score Jesper!

I ain’t had GAS for a bit, but…
There’s one of them Epi firebirds used at my local music go round. I couldn’t help myself and had to go check it out. Worse yet, I think it’s still there teasing me.

I’d heard they feel large when playing and I’d agree with that. Felt like my left arm was extended a shade more than when playing what I already got.
That said. I thought it felt just fine when playing it. A little bigger didn’t seem all that different to me. I liked the tones too. Suppose it could have been the amp I choose to test it out with though. A twin reverb. I don’t have a twin myself, but I do have a '65 prri that I’d guess that it would sound sweet through.
What amp you playing that with?

If I didn’t have several expenses coming up shortly (like taxes), I’d surly have picked that up. I liked it. + I’m a sucker for sunburst finish. My favorite it seems. That and my wife says I got enough gear and I suppose she is correct. As I’m just a amateur player, 3 amps and 5 guitars I reckon is enough.

Congratulations on that one. imho, ya scored a dandy instrument there.
Beautiful.
And yes, I am envious…

Thanks!
There is a trick to it’s balance: Play it with a strap also when sitting. That allows one to bring it a bit tot the rigth side with the right arm resting on the upper bout. This has the benefit of raising the neck a bit, so that it comes into a very comfortable position and reach. I had the same reservation as you until I tried it. It really is quite comfortable once you mount a strap.

This inly my second guitar, so I have a long way to go reach your 5

Like Toby Jenner wrote, it is a dedicated 6-months blues course. Pricy, but well worth the money, if you are interested in blues. I am only a beginner - started playing August 2023, so less than a year before BLIM started. It was challenging, but I was able to follow most of it by putting in the effort (roughly 90 minutes practice er day). It covers an unbelievable amount of material. Blues history, recommended playlists, all 5 pentatonic patterns (one per month), rhythmic patterns and fills, a ton (!) of licks, a bit of theory, transcription of solos by ear, learning to play blues standards, how to make a solo interesting and melodic, harmonic analysis, guest lectures by super-heroes,… The amount of work Justin and his team have put into this must amount to several years full-time equivalent. In addition, you get access to a dedicated space here on the forum, where you can interact with fellow students, and where Justin takes time (don’t know how he finds it) to participate as well.

I can honestly state that is among the very few best learning experiences I have had in my live - it really is that good! As a beginner, I was only able to skate over the surface of a lot of the content despite putting in 10 hours or more each week. This shows how much content there is. But that is ok - for the things that are beyond my level, I watched the videos guitar in hand trying to do a bit of it. These are the parts I will focus on when I start the whole journey over again soon.

That through-neck is what sealed the deal for me

Congrats on your new toy! I’m sure it’s well-deserved. Your firebird looks really sweet. I especially like the four-control knob feature. My graduation reward will be a new amp. It will be the first one that I chose for myself.

Heck yeah! What a beauty. I’m just beginning the Blim course and this seems like a great reward to yourself. I may try to build a Firebird from a kit after my Blim graduation. I’m building a Les Paul Junior now, so we’ll see how it goes. I’m retired with some time on my hands.
