Jim kindly gave us some written answers to some of our student questions!
-
Which Arpeggio book did you mention during the stream? A: Jay Friedman - Guitar Complete
-
Ant asks: The Orange album is one of my favorites, especially Blues for Roy. I love those otherworldly tones. Jim, could you share one simple practice tip I can add to my routine? A: Don’t doodle, be goal-oriented. 15 minutes a day of focused practice is better then 1 hour of doodling
-
Daniels asks: If you had to choose just one thing: what key difference separates a very good intermediate guitarist from an advanced guitarist, or dare I say “musician”? A: Being prepared. I prepare for every gig like it’s for Prince -no matter where the venue is or the artist I’m playing with.
-
How much do you think about your picking technique? Do you specifically practice varying the sound of your pick attack? A: I don’t think about it. It’s intuitive
-
How do you weave licks into one musical whole? Do you use specific melodic sequences, or is there some other “secret sauce” to your approach? A:We discussed this during the clinic reference - play like you’re a singer.
