Hi there,

I’ve been practicing my vibrato for about a month now, and it’s coming along nicely :slightly_smiling_face: However, I’ve noticed a couple of (maybe) issues:

  1. When I use finger vibrato, my finger sometimes slips off the string—especially during faster or more aggressive vibrato—resulting in an unwanted ā€œtwang.ā€ I suspect it’s because I’m not applying enough pressure in those moments on the Index Finger, since it almost never happens when I consciously focus on it.
  2. I’m not sure if this is normal, but when I play a fast or aggressive vibrato with a lot of feeling, I notice that I end up ā€œshakingā€ the whole guitar. It still sounds and feels good, and my motion feels like it’s coming from a solid pivot technique, but the guitar itself wobbles quite a bit

Any thoughts on these points?
I guess don’t put enough Pressure on the Finger in this moment, cause when I Focus on it, it almost never happens…

  1. I’m not sure if thats a Thing but I noticed wenn do an aggresive / fast vibrato and I pute a whole lot of Feeling into it, that I shake my whole Guitar  I sound’s great an everything but I’m not sure if its suposed to be this way. I mean the motion is a sound solid pivot point techniqe but my Guitar whobles a lot when I do it…

Any thoughts on this?

Yeah….back off man!! You’re being far too exuberant!!

Nah, just kidding, nothing wrong with a bit of exuberance.

I like the ā€˜Hand-off’ technique for fast first finger vibrato, where you let go of the neck and the only point of contact is your finger on the string.

 Okay, so nothing wrong with that I guess. What about the slipping off, do you encounter this Problem as well?

No, I don’t slip off with hand-off vibrato. Probably because the finger is more upright than with your technique. Your finger might move across the string more and then when you get everything shaking, the string slips under your finger and….twang!

Have you seen Justin’s thread where he’s asking for clips of problems that he can respond to?
Your problem would be a good candidate.

Yes guess that is what is happening with the pivot technique and the shaking. No, I haven’t seen or found this thread can you show me the link? Thanks a lot :hugs:

Justin has a few lessons on different vibrato techniques. Some are hard to find on the website. If you do a search for Vibrato you’ll find them
There are 4 in this module and 2 or 3 others the search brings up

I’d post a link but I can never remember how to link to another thread.

Rick @stitch can you help please?

I’m not @stitch, but here’s the link:

Great, that is perfect  Thank you so much! Gonna try and record this and post it there :star_struck:

Can u believe it? Now I set up everything to record myself but now I’m not able to do the twƤng anymore  Not happening any more, no Sir  So I guess this is proof that the objective Observer Theorie works! Awesome

Make it twang, Dominic!
Because it will happen again when you’re playing. Deliberately lift or flatten your finger till it twangs. You can then know the difference between twanging and not and you’ll automatically start to avoid the twang.
