Bohemian Rhapsody

I was so excited when I received Justin’s newsletter seeing that he had published an acoustic arrangement for the song. I spent the whole weekend practicing and finally had a chance to record it today.

I mostly followed Justin’s tabs. But I’m not very disciplined when fretting the whole chord knowing that any string picked will sound good. If it’s key/important note, that I will go for it but otherwise I might just pick a different string and not strictly adhere to the tab. So my playing will varies from one attempt to the other. I did miss a couple of base notes though, which are important, that is not on purpose :expressionless:

EDIT: Oh, I almost forgot. One major change I did is in the Dm with changing bass progression. Instead of changing the base note, I changed the chord to play the notes that would otherwise be played on the A string (No idea what the chords are called). It was too difficult for me to do these quick changes with the figuring and I admit I got lazy. That’s something to improve.

I think that this is the hardest part about this kind of solo and slow acoustic guitar arrangement. Every note missed impacts the performance. And some notes just need to ring out.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the recording. It’s the 4th take. Added some reverb and subtle delay post-edit.

Nice arrangement of a pretty difficult song, a true challenge for an acoustic player. What else can I say… Just congrats, great work! :+1: :guitar:

Thanks, @roger_holland .

Yeah, last year I had family (nothing bad) stuff going on that left me close to zero time for anything else. I didn’t even finish BLIM. Still need to get back to that. I learned a lot about myself actually during last year music-wise. But that’s for another post.

4th take while the red light was on. I obviously played it lots more before hitting that record button. I also recorded a few takes after. But the 4th was the best. Solo acoustic is really unforgiving when recording.

Oh yeah… I found it very helpful to sing the song in my head. It has unusual chord progressions. Hope this helps.
