Bonjour, I'm Paul from Paris

Hey, I’m Paul, 29 years old and french.

I was listening to some random playlist when came “Where do you think you’re going”, and I just said “hey man, what you call this thing”. Then I learnt about Dire Straits and I eventually came to the conclusion that I should have learned to play the guitar. I started only a month ago, so I believe I’ve got a long way to go.
Everyone warned me about the difficulty of Mark Knopfler’s style but I hope with Justinguitar’s help and the app I’ll get close.

I’m currently using a really old and dusty accoustic yamaha but if I’m lucky I’ll get a fine squier sonic by christmas. I just hope the chords won’t snap before then.

And one last thing,

We are the sultans of swing

Welcome, Paul. I’m currently learning Walk of Life, easy chords (after a year for me anyway). I doubt I’ll ever be able to play it like Mark, but it’s still fun!

Bonjour Paul,

Welcome to Justin Community. You will find it to be a really helpful place and with lots of nice and encouraging people.

I took up guitar because I wanted to play a particular type of music but it’s been so much fun playing all different things that one and a half years in, I haven’t even started what I originally intended to learn. I hope you get to eventually play like Mark Knopfler but most importantly, make sure you have a lot of fun on the way.

Hi Paul ,
Welcome here and I wish you a lot of fun :sunglasses:

Ooo yes, that’s a nice one, isn’t it… I sorted this one out a long time ago, but I’m still missing a number of important notes, the solo has come a long way after I learned that there was such a thing as pentatonic scales and I so you hit fewer wrong notes…thanks for the reminder

Greetings,Rogier

Welcome to the Community Paul you’ve found a great place to learn and loads of supportive folk to help you on your journey.

Might be worth checking these folk out as your in Paris. I’m over in Normandie but used them earlier in the year when let down by a large distributor. Really helpful and quick service.

Hi Paul, welcome. Good you’ve started learning to play guitar. With Justin Guitar lessons you’ll be able to play many different music styles. If you cannot play right away the song you want to play the way you intend to do it remember that Mark Knoefler has been playing guitar much longer that you’ve been, even when he just recorded the song.

Welcome aboard, JG is great. I first heard Dire Straits on MTV as a kid. Some how never matched the band togeather with the name knopfler until just recently at a live club lesson.

Have fun with Justin’s lessons he is an amazing teacher.

Bonne journée Paul, j’espère que tu vas bien! Bienvenue dans la communauté JustinGuitar, c’est un endroit idéal pour apprendre la guitare!
Hmmm Mark Knopfler’s style of playing is not an easy style to emulate; it’s not any conventional style, but almost a hybrid style. I’ve tried it myself and never really done it perfectly, it’s got a lot to do with touch as well as the technique.
Best thing is to get through the Beginner course and then concentrate on Finger style, get reasonably confident with it and then concentrate on his style. But in the meantime there’s no reason why you should look at it in an analytical manner, but always remember, if you get it not quite right don’t practice it that way - practice makes perfect (if it’s how it should be or not!).

If you like knopfler , you should listen to JJ Cale , Cale influenced Marc’s way of playing
