I started working on this, and am practicing “big red button” desensitization…
Anyway, 1st half, and still needs work, but I am having fun putting the pieces together!

Hi Chip,
Nice job already and a nice basis for embellishing this Boom bass … I see that you have looked at my Boom bass and hope that it gives the right vibes/hope to play well.
Usually (always when started the first days/week) if I have to think a lot in between and/or miss strings/notes, I play it much slower and really one barr good + one or two new notes from the next barr and then the next one etc… and I make sure that I play it close to perfectly when i first record it (for my maximum achievable level)…deadly slow if necessary… then speed it up .
I often don’t stick to my own tips (and Justins) and then it takes me much longer
but I got a lot of time to kill every day
Nice to read that you enjoy it and as long as you enjoy playing this, you will progress… these are super fun lessons
(a tip for many of us… stick a green piece of paper/sticker on that red button )
Greetings
Hi, Chip, it’s going there man it sounds ok and you can see you are becoming more and more settled playing along with it good work Chip cheers Hec
Nice start Chip. I am working on the same one on acoustic but I really like your audio setup there. Well done!

Thanks folks!
@roger_holland I really enjoyed and was inspired by your rendition. It makes me feel good to know that you were able to nail it! (I did a search on Boom Bass before I knocked off for the night, and watched yours in quiet appreciation.)
The tone was fun to find. I had to rewatch Justin’s katana review to remember which knobs do what!
(I don’t have a katana, mine is a Quilter, but the principle is the same.)
That’s sounding great. You are getting close. Don’t these blues songs sound cool?
You dont seem to be having issues with it from my stand point. I will pass on one of the greatest tips for over coming the Red Light problem given to me by Richard (one of the instructors). It has made all the difference for me.
Just start recording everything. Practices and song work. It is incredible the amount of insight I have gained just from watching myself play and practice certain items. When I having a problem with something the first thing I do is review the a video of myself trying to do it. I often see what I am doing wrong. Of course its important to delete all that or your memeory will become filled very quickly. But the really cool thing is suddenly you just dont even care that you are recording. Now its really easy to share video to my class mates. I dont feel uncomfortable at all anymore. Quite a change for me considering i was deathly afraid my whole first yoear of playing and didnt share a single video until last december.
One last point, this has been especially important now that I have been doing more blues improv. I will think omg that thing I didreally sounded sort of cool, what in the world did I do? I can go back and look. Then I can evaluate how it sounded and decided if its worth persuring as a possible pet lick or it was just good flow. Or maybe its didnt even sound as good as I thought.
Great job and I really love the color of your guitar. These cream colors are nice.
Thanks for sharing your progress.
Excellent advice, Jason! Thank you. I forget so much of what I see and hear just through shear volume! Recording more makes a lot of sense, especially with regards to practice… I think I will be giving this a try!
Keep at it chip it was listening to Rogiers boom bass that got me playing Boom Boom by John Lee Hooker its not too complicated the last riff repeats over 16 bars ! the version I learnt was when he was playing alone.
Thanks John. Appreciate the encouragement!
Cheers!
Bravo, so far sounding superb, Chip. Love the mellow laid back vibe. Is this a John Lee Hooker tune?
@DavidP I believe it is based on Hooker’s version, but has lots of room for improv. It’s from one of Justin’s lessons: “Boom Bass With Licks” from Intermediate Grade 4.
You’ve got just cool vibes going on there Chip!..and just need to smooth it out a bit so just keep on having fun with it. Love the quality of audio too.
Thanks @Silvia80 !
Appreciate the kind words. I am starting to mess with sound a lot more since I got the mustang micro headset amp.
Do you folks know which setting puts a “wow” in the front of a note? (bwa bwaah bwa instead of the straight note from the beginning? I think it might be a compression or some such, but I am having difficulty reproducing it.)
