Brackets in Tab

Can someone explain to me what the brackets mean in tab?

I thought I knew because I’ve only really seen them on a sustained note but in this context I have no clue.

Thanks

The bracketed notes seem to be implying the underlying full harmonic structure. There are three power chords. No major or minor quality. The extra notes - that may or may not be actually played - give A major then D and E major chords respectively.
Without knowing the song or the source I’m unsure beyond that.

Thanks for your help this week mate, you’ve been responding to everything!!!

The source is Ultimate Guitar tabs. For Blitzkrieg Bop.

I’ve been building a few play lists, the campfire, builders etc. trying to start the year strong and add some more structure to my practice.

I typically play this song with the power chord but them seeing these bracketed notes I just started to wonder what they meant. (In this song with the distortion turned up I doubt it would be a big difference but good to add to understanding)

Thanks again legend
