Brian Larsen's Learning Log

Busy times, but still carving out time for my six-strings
I’m still happy having reduced ‘new topics’ and sticking most things in my LL, although there’s a new one brewing on the horizon…
I went to Henry Priestman’s (The Yachts, It’s Immaterial, The Christians) 70th birthday party gig on Saturday and had a great time. I’d forgotten what a great songsmith he is. There were loads of guest musicians and I was tickled to note that about half of them have played in my living room  Henry and his bass player were staying at my friend Nick’s house who plays fiddle for them, so I crashed the ‘after-show party’. Turns out I was the only one there, but had a lovely time nonetheless…

Good news: Chris’ son Will had his sentencing the 10 days ago and is now a free man! 15-month suspended sentence with 10 hours a month community service.
All the prison stuff put me in mind to have a bash at The Mercy Seat by Nick Cave. (Johnny Cash does a great cover too).

I enjoyed @Rmking60 tackling One by U2 and it reminded me I’ve been meaning to give this a go for a while (even if I have very mixed feelings about that band). It’s been ages since I did a Justin lesson, but I enjoyed it and tried to play it the way he teaches.
Needs more work, but happy with the direction it’s going in. I’ll definitely revisit this.

I’m expecting 55 guests this evening for nibbles, drinks, song and merriment.
An artist acquaintance announced on fb before Easter that he had terminal cancer with only months left to live, so I offered if he’d like me to host a party that he could invite all his friends to. He said yes, please… :grimacing:
His good friend is bringing mics, keyboards and monitors.
I’ve warned the neighbours…
