Broken Glass Lullaby

Hi All,

Track 3:

We’re pretty pleased with how this turned out. Though might not be everyone’s cuppa. Top 40 pop tune it isn’t, but who cares?
I think of it as a sit in the dark song.
Channeling The Doors meets The Mission with a sprinkle of us. Some lovely vocals by Katja in the bridge I reckon.

Instruments: Mostly guitar, drums and bass. Tiny bit of keys in the bridge.

Any feedback always welcome.

Broken Glass Lullaby

I thought I had you fooled, but you always see right through me
The Devil brought dead flowers, well, I guess he really knew me
The shadows on the wall call, whispering your name
It’s not a road to heaven, no, it’s just another game

Your words fill the air – oh you’re such a real work of art
Your words fill the air - I breathe, and now you start

And as the darkness grows your sweet embrace enchains me
Possessed, I’m a willing host, but my heart it never blames me
I taste the bitter past call and dance on shattered dreams
This spiral of despair, well it’s working at my seams

Your words fill the air – oh you’re such a real work of art
Your words fill the air - I breathe, and now you start

You sing to me your lullaby
Your broken glass lullaby
Your love, sick, melody
An angel in the shattered light
An echo of a love once mine
But now all that’s left to me
Is your lullaby
Your broken glass lullaby
Your lullaby
Your broken glass lullaby

So sing to me

Your words fill the air – oh you’re such a real work of art
Your words fill the air - I breathe, and now you start

And now you start

Very atmospheric and quite black: echoes of Velvet Underground. Enjoyed it!

Very very good again guys. I am not qualified enough to provide any meaningful feedback so will simply say that it was very enjoyable :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Wow, that was just stunning!
I always look forward to hearing what you pair have been up to, and I’m never disappointed.
Not usually my thing but in this case the performance and presentation was so good compared to the commercial scene it’s something else!
I could definitely give this a spin on a fairly regular basis, it’s one that I just really like the feel of it.

I liked that - nice expression in the vocals and i liked the arrangement.

Digger, Katja . . . what can I say, another fabulous track from The Comfortably Strange.

I started the song in SC before reading the post and immediately thought “I’m hearing an ever so cool Doors vibe” Not as familiar with The Mission but my less familiar sense is that I’m hearing that as well.

As always the production and performance is superb. I do love the dark almost mystical vibes of your lyrics, poetry sung.

On the mix, and I am not totally sure, but maybe I’d have lifted the bass a little in the mix, the kick in the bridge. Not totally convicted on that, but maybe.

Might also have used ‘song’ rather than ‘words’ but perhaps I am always a little too obvious on the rare occasions I try and write lyrics for an original.

What a treat, look forward to more from this album!

Great stuff Diggs & Company!
That slightly flabby kick is, well… a kick… The vocals and production stand out as very strong. Just a great job all around.

Keep it up and you will have a fine album of songs mate!

Hi Digger & Katja,

Another great sounding track! I’m very unfamiliar with the genre, so cannot really reference it to anything else - but I found it atmospheric, haunting, dark and just overall well performed

Hi Digger and Katja, I agree with Brian, this sounded really atmospheric and somehow black, but with a clear contrast to the darkness through the sweet sound of the vocals. Very very beautiful indeed!

Wow you guys really know how to project a mood in a song - always look forward to your uploads

wonderful track. Loved it.

Fook me Digger and Katja ! I have a lot of :poop: going on at the moment but that just kicked me right in the nuts ! No other way to describe the emotional overload.

Absolute cracking track. Emotive lyrics and wonderful musical journey. I keep saying one of your best. But yep one of your best if not your best! The covers are great and you brings a unique CS vibe to them but your personal creativity and originality speaks volumes.

Hi All,

thanks for the kind words.

Toby - hope things are getting better. Bad stuff can always be flushed away. I enjoy doing covers, but prefer originals.

David - I’ll have a play with the bass and kick. Always open for fresh ideas/ears.
The influences for the song were The End, Tower of Strength, a little bit of Woodpecker from Mars and Suite Sister Mary - all to varying degrees, and some more obvious than others. Just wish i had a blistering solo or 2 in my fingers - perhaps a 12inch version if anyone wants to contribute.

Brian - i’m not massively familiar with VU, but know a few trakcs and totally hear what you mean.

Thanks all again.

Wow! This gave me goosebumps!

I knew you were painting it black from the moment the ‘zitar-guitar’ set the scene…
Katja’s ethereal vocals gathered me up in her limbs, placing me gently on Charon’s craft to float down the black Styx.

I was almost at one with Morpheus, as we floated under the bridge and would not have been impressed to have my lullaby rudely interrupted by a blistering guitar solo…
Excellent! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Lol. Loving that imagery - wish I had the nouse to make a vid like for the song.
