Hi All,
Here is a one take from my porch on a very cold morning. This is Empty Sky by Bruce Springsteen . It’s quite a simple but powerful song and was written shortly after 9/11. There are two theories on what the empty sky refers to, one is the absence from the sky of the twin towers , and the second which is the more popular belief is the absence of planes in the sky on that day due to everything being grounded.
Anyway that’s the backstory to the song…
Eddie, well played and your singing style matches Bruce Springsteen’s mood in the song. Thanks for reminding me that songs can be simple and still be powerful. Well done for a first take.
I just really enjoy those porch gigs I just think the whole ambience works for me.
This is not a song I knew and have not listened to the original. I’m not really a Springsteen fan but this was a great song really nice vibe, very moody, thought provoking. As I say I don’t know how it is done originally but this version was great, I like the way it was played and the vocal sounded sweet certainly had me hooked.
The coffee machine for my wife is bubbling away while my tea is cooling in front of me and I am very reminded of that terrible moment because of the explanation you wrote.
And for the rest … the song fits great with waking up here and gives a very relaxed mood here in terms of sound and the singing of course
@MacOneill thank You Deborah for the kind words and I am glad you enjoyed the song. @Ontime thank you Jason for listening and taking the time to comment. @TheCluelessLuthier Thanks so much Mark. @Will_E_Vander . Thank you Will and I hope that sunshine lasts in Dublin @SteveL_G99 thank you Steve and yes it does go to show that a song doesn’t need to be complex to be powerful. @mstaniszczak thank you for the kind words Marcin. @MollyT thank you Molly and i am happy you liked my cover of the song @beejay56 . Thank you very much Brian. @CD02 thanks Craig. Sitting on the porch is my favorite place to sit and play guitar. I just find it so relaxing. Unfortunately there have not been many opportunities this winter as it’s been cold as anything. Not a problem for you in sunny Oz . I appreciate the kind words. @roger_holland thank you Roger, it certainly was a crazy and a very strange day. I hope by reminding you of those events I didn’t spoil the taste of your tea or of your wife’s coffee.
Thanks Dom. It was very simple to learn and just as simple to play but I love when lyrics grab me and Bruce certainly has a way of bringing you into a song.
