I have been playing an acoustic guitar for five years and are buying an electric.I am just about an intermediate.Any song suggestions to get me started would be great.I prefer slower/country style singer/songwriter songs. Thanks
Nick
Always on my mind Willie Nelson.
On an electric?
Sure ,I’ve seen this song many times on electric
Fair enough. I just tend to associate Willie Nelson with ‘Trigger’. ![]()
Singer song writer on electric? Maybe check out Madison Cunningham. I think she plays a lot / most of hers on electric. Maybe check out “Song in my head”.
Alanis Morissette might also be worth a listen.
Thank you
I like that Jeff cheers HEC
Maybe not exactly what you’re after, but I am a huge fan of Tom Petty. In particular, there’s a TON of good stuff on the Wildflowers album. I go back and forth between acoustic and electric on a number of the songs I’ve learned from there.
On “It’s Good to Be King” I even play it differently on acoustic vs. electric. On the extended album, there’s an alt version of the song that’s more stripped down and acoustic with full strumming, whereas the main studio release most ppl know is more electric-leaning. On that one, I tend to combine strums and arpeggiating (if you listen closely to the song you’ll hear the sort of thing I’m talking about).
Thanks for the suggestion
Knockin on Heaven’s doors - you can start with Dylan’s strumming version, but then you can nicely test run your electric with some power chords, verse chords arpeggios and even solo 1 (not too difficult) from GnR version. Great song to learn.
Cortez the killer is a great jam from; from basic open chords with a bit of drive to improvising over the basic progression. some overdrive, a bit of reverb and jam away ^^
A lot of Roy Orbison.
I love Neil Young .Thanks for the suggestion
I would try Call Me The Breeze and many other songs by J.J. Cale

Try Tennessee Whiskey.
Great little tune, pretty simple, and some cool melodies lines that sound great on an electric.
Im sure you’ll discover thousands more…
Cheers, Shane
You could check out the Dwight Yoakum acoustic album dwightyoakamacoustic.net - Wikipedia
For some ideas. On the album he does acoustic versions of songs normally played on electric. You could then reverse the process to get the version you want
Having both an acoustic and electric version of the same song is kind of cool

Thanks for the suggestion
You could try some Merle Haggard.
