Dear JG - What would be a terrific feature to have on the JG metronome app is a feature where you set a certain bpm and it automatically speeds up the tempo. you add this and you’d beat any metronome app out there. this would great help speeding up one’s playing with out having to go back and adjust the speed manually. what do you think? michaael
Soundbrenner app can do this, but you need a subscription for this and some other features.
Does the “Step upper” mode work for you?
Don’t know if this is operator(me) error, an old bug, or a new bug with current iOS version.
(I realize this app is no longer supported software, so am not expecting a fix from Justin & Co.)
I’m on iOS Metronome app v2.21, the latest (from 8 years ago)
running iOS 18.6.2 and 26.2: both with same symptoms.
The Step Upper doesn’t step up.
I’d expect it to increment the BPM every two bars,
if my reading of the instructions is correct
I set up the “Step Upper” like this:
And when I hit “Play” it goes to 64BPM, so I assume that means it has read the configuration, but it never steps up.
Ideas?
- Bug
- Operator error
- It doesn’t work the way I think it would
- Other?
Thanks for your time.
Hi, you’ll need to add an interval for each step you want to increase. So if you want to play 64bpm for 2 bars, then 74bpm for 2 bars, you need to specify that. If you have two intervals specified, it will play the first, then the second, then the first, then the second…
I personally use the speed upper, where you set a start tempo and an end tempo, with a practice duration.
Hope that helps!
Ahah Judi, like Vajra, you have cut through the ignorance.
It works exactly as you have described, and is, sadly, not what I am looking for.
I want to play 30 seconds at a BPM, then step up BPM every 30 seconds. I want to keep pushing myself on some tricky chord changes.
This is not the tool you’re looking for, sayeth Obi-Wan
Then what you need to do on the app is create a step upper. You add new sections. So first section can be for example 60bpm for 30s, them add another section for 65bpm for 30s etc.
And it steps up for me.
Nice, thank you for the explanation. A bit more manual labor than I expected, but what is playing the guitar but manual labor ![]()
As I’m trying to work on some chord changes/strumming patterns that are giving me trouble, I want something very quick to adjust.
For all of a one time $3, I just purchased the app “Metronome: Tempo” from FrozenApe. It has the easy setup I was looking for, it steps up either by bars or time, and I can make a new setup in moments.
With all of 6 ratings in the App Store, it’s not wildly popular.
I’ll review it after using it for a month or so.
It formats for iPhone and iPad correctly,
I think it is sort of still in development, as it was updated last for iOS last year
I looked at a couple of other apps:
Metronome Pro, that did this stepping, but it was a subscription fee.
Metronome Step was $5 and didn’t look as strong.
